About this deal

Metropolitan Life by Fran (not Annie) Lebowitz, a snarky little collection of vignettes of life in the big city way back when. Metropolitan Life Insurance Company: The Metropolitan Life Insurance Company; its history, its present position in the insurance world, its home office building and its work carried on therein.

Fran Lebowitz's earlier works within this book are decent, but it peels away to weaker texts later on. They weren’t terrible — just not as funny as I expected them to be given the names thrown as a means of comparison on the back cover.Metropolitan Life Insurance Company: The welfare work of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for its employees : report for 1915. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. While there are a number of fine one liners, one would be better served to patiently await a future edition of Bartlett's than wading through Metropolitan Life. I'm old enough to remember mood rings and CB radios, but they wern't all that funny then, and they are definitely not funny now.

It was obvious to me, while listening to her in the film, that she is still writing whether she knows it or not; she is such a natural.Metropolitan Life Insurance Company: Mortality statistics of insured wage-earners and their families : experience of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Industrial Department, 1911 to 1916, in the United States and Canada (Metropolitan Life Insurance, 1919), also by Louis I.

Fran Lebowitz has a wonderfully dry and irreverent way of looking at life; this is a favorite of mine and I recommend it. I recently saw her on Jimmie Fallon’s late night TV show, and I was happy to see she is her still her crabby, funny self. This is a collection of Lebowitz essays that originally were published in Warhol's magazine, Interview and in Mademoiselle and all were written in the 1970's. Had she taken her own advice, perhaps we wouldn't have this collection of superficial notions and jokes that are so much more masturbatory and self-satisfying than they are thoughtful or noteworthy. And although Metropolitan Life is still funny, it’s become another piece of the New York I knew, and ache for. Last week I saw an interview with Fran Lebowitz and I immediately understood that I've known so much about her yet I've never read Metropolitan Life.
