I won’t ignore the fact that I wasn’t a fan of Cassidy, even though I get why she was the way she was. It's the perfect spot for readers to get a glimpse of what lies within the pages, helping them decide which book to dive into next. I ugly cried through a good portion of this book (I am an emotional hot mess express, so take that warning how you will).

I don’t mind a ridiculously over-the-top pulp fiction, but I just couldn’t get over the fact that the heroine, an 18 year old Pollyanna who grew up coddled by her loving family, who is a professional ballet dancer, and who says “frick” instead of “fuck,” all of a sudden is capable of stabbing and shooting her would-be rapist then go on her merry way, still saying “frick” this and “frick that. The first 25-30% drags a bit, so I could see why I stopped reading the 1st time, but this time I kept going. Also, something happens at the end that makes the relationship unnecessarily bitter and sad the hero goes to jail for a few years, so the hero and heroine are separated AND he misses the first few years of his daughter's life . the authors reel showed up while i was scrolling and istg every one of her books sounded like a BANGER. I don't read a lot of mafia romance, but I feel like this was mafia romance even for those who don't like the theme.

Alpha male on point: jealous, protective, powerful, smart, cocky, and deep, with a single-minded interest in the heroine. He's possessive and tries to keep her away from his work, he doesn’t want her tainted by the darkness, so there are things that he will keep from her. I also liked how she allowed Cassidy to work through her feelings about what Max does as a job and his connections to the 'underworld'.

I needed to know the ended, I was desperate to see if they would get their HEA like they so deserve. I really struggled with Nicci's first book, but I could tell the basis was there for awesome storytelling and she 👋 did 👋 not 👋 disappoint 👋! The series might take you on a rollercoaster of emotions or provide a steady companion on lazy Sunday afternoons. Loved this book and even though it’s a big longer then I usually read I found myself sad that it was over. Some plot hole are left open at the end of the book but that's too be expected in a duet and nothing is left grossly unexplained.No matter how many times I read or listen to this book (and it's been a few), their love story still gives me flutters in the belly and heart. He is also known to be a playboy and claims he doesn’t do monogamy, yet he is different around his 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞. she literally has NO backbone, and I don’t even have a lot of backbone but this was just RIDICULOUS. Even few hours after he was with an ow (she saw half naked pictures of him and the ow with her own eyes).

She went from an asexual pigeon to a needy, clingy, whiny woman, almost addicted to sex and it just made her more unlikable. This author, whether a rising star or a seasoned veteran, has crafted the pages that whisk readers away on this series' journey. This book was all kinds of wonderful, beautiful, heartbreaking, tear jerking, breath stopping amazingness.
