Description

Technically, foods don’t actually contain sulforaphane, they contain glucoraphanin, which when ingested, stimulates the body to produce sulforaphane. Sulforaphane is a phytonutrient. Phytonutrients are a group of chemicals found in plant foods that lower inflammation, protect cells from oxidative damage, and have potent anti-cancer and anti-heart disease effects. As well as sulforaphane, other particularly powerful phytonutrients include quercetin and curcumin. [4] Broccoli sprouts and broccoli sprout seeds are two of the best known sources of glucoraphanin, which stimulates the production of sulforaphane to help your body detoxify. Other cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower and brussels sprouts also contain the precursor to sulforaphane, but in lower levels than broccoli sprouts. Key Benefits of Sulforaphane The remaining authors declare that the research was conducted in the absence of any commercial or financial relationships that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest. Publisher’s Note In these foods, it’s in the inactive form glucoraphanin that belongs to the glucosinolate family of plant compounds. We felt the Phytofare® Catechin Complex was such a potent ingredient with ultra high bioavailability, it would further enhance our product. Test results showed that Phytofare® delivered 10x higher levels of active phyto-nutrients into the blood. Delivers complete phyto-complexes. All eight green tea catechins were detected in the blood as opposed to just one or two as is present in generic extracts. Greatly prolongs the presence of the phyto-complexes in the blood. With most extracts, all traces are eliminated from the blood in just a few hours. With Phytofare® all eight catechins remained in in the blood at therapeutic levels after 24 hours, making it effective in “once a day” applications.

Despite their growing popularity, more research is needed to determine the ideal dose, safety, and effectiveness of sulforaphane supplements in humans ( 14). Summary Broccoli sprouts are 3-4 day old broccoli plants that have a similar appearance to alfalfa sprouts, and a similar taste to radish. They’re incredibly high in antioxidants, vitamin C, calcium and fibre, as well as a compound called glucopraphanin, which is the precursor to a potent detoxifying chemical called sulforaphane. [3] Which Foods Are Highest In Sulforaphane? S) group is electrophilic and reacts readily with sulfur-, nitrogen-, and oxygen-centered nucleophiles. The most common reaction in mammalian cells is conjugation with sulfhydryl groups, such as the sulfhydryl group of cysteine in proteins and glutathione. The reaction with glutathione is catalyzed by glutathione S-transferases (GSTs), and the resulting product is cleaved sequentially by γ-glutamyl-transpeptidase (γ-GT), cysteinyl-glycinease (GCase), and N-acetyltransferase (NAT) to give the N-acetylcysteine conjugate (mercapturic acid). The conjugates are collectively known as dithiocarbamates. Thus, further research is needed to confirm whether sulforaphane would have the same effects in humans ( 28). Summary Work in an industry that involves frequent use of cleaning products, fumes, or work in a factory environmentSome cholesterol is necessary for hormone production and overall health, but many people have too much cholesterol in their bodies. This can lead to heart disease, strokes and other serious health complications. Previous cell-based and human studies have indicated that sulforaphane exposure is associated with decreased breast cancer progression, including initiating cell cycle arrest and apoptosis ( Kuran et al., 2020). Sulforaphane treatment led to the inhibition of cell proliferation of breast cancer cells lines, MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 and provoked cytotoxic activity by changing cysteine residues of the promyelocytic leukemia protein, known to promote proliferation of the MCF-7 breast cancer cell line ( Alhazmi et al., 2020). Sulforaphane has also been shown to modify cell migration and expression of epithelial mesenchymal transition markers that play a large role in breast cancer metastasis ( Bagheri et al., 2020). Try steaming broccoli for a few minutes to soften it and bring out a sweeter flavor. You can also mix it with other vegetables for a nutrient boost. Broccoli extract contains the bioactive compounds found in the florets and stems of this healthful cruciferous vegetable. These nutrients include potassium, iron and vitamins A, C and K, among others. There have been numerous human studies investigating the influence of sulforaphane on prostate cancer. Traka and coworkers evaluated the effect of a once-a-week consumption of broccoli soups with increasing concentration of glucoraphanin in a prostate cancer cohort on active surveillance. They indicated a dose-dependent suppression in gene expression and pathways associated with the development and progression of prostate cancer ( Traka et al., 2019). Consistent with this study, Zhang and coworkers assessed the influence of daily consumption of either 200µmol broccoli sprout extract or placebo in men scheduled for prostate biopsy and demonstrated changes in gene expression with the downregulation of genes associated with prostate cancer progression ( AMACR and ARLNC1) ( Zhang et al., 2020). Broccoli is high in fiber, great for helping digestion, and also contains a compound called sulforaphane, which stimulates enzyme production in the body. Enzymes are essential to life, accelerating chemical reactions in your cells to keep you alive. Broccoli extract powder dissolves well in most liquids. As a dietary supplement, take 500 mg (1/8 tsp) daily, or as directed your physician.
