Crucially, outside of the spectacular but occasionally forced-looking Crystal Clear preset, there’s nothing gaudy or forced about the OLED807’s new brightness and colour achievements. The P5 processor deploys the extra capabilities of the new EX display with enough finesse and experience to ensure that it delivers nothing but positive outcomes. Approximate diagonal size of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the diagonal is calculated from the width and height of the screen.

If Philips' flagship OLED turns out to be out of your budget, this high-end MiniLED TV could be a tempting trade-off between performance and price. You get Android TV as your smart software here, but note that it isn't Google TV – unlike Sony, Philips hasn't moved on yet. This is disappointing in terms of usability (Google TV is superior to Android TV for ease of use), but when it comes to how comprehensive the streaming support is there's little to criticise here. The new generation of the P5 processor extends its AI-based content classification feature with a new Auto Film mode, and there’s also a new Ambient Intelligence features that applies sophisticated machine learning techniques to adjusting various aspects of the picture in response to ambient light conditions. We’d also recommend slightly reining in the sharpness and colour slightly with the Crystal Clear preset, while adding a touch more punch to the HDR Personal preset. Power supply and consumption Information about the power supply and consumption, energy efficiency class, etc. 220VMotion is also excellent with 24fps handling looking very good indeed with no signs of induced judder or image blur that are not natively present in the content, thanks to correct 5:5 pulldown being applied when Pure Cinema is selected in the motion menu. The Movie setting adds some De-blur and this is claimed to help with the effects of the sample and hold technology of OLED so it looks smoother without adding in Soap Opera Effect (SOE). However, I could tell interpolation was being applied when using this mode, even if it is subtle, but your mileage may vary and it may suit your requirements. Overall, the Philips OLED807 offers very good cinematic images with your SDR film and TV content. It's also worth noting that the new OLED807 is one of the first TVs to support DTS Play-FiHome Theatre. The tech allows you to integrate your TV into a Play-Fi wireless surround speaker system, and use your TV's built-in speakers as a dedicated centre channel. Pretty clever. Philips 2022 TV range breakdown

It offers strong HDR support (HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision) but gaming features seem to have taken a hit. HDMI 2.1 is present but there's no eARC or Auto Low Latency Mode. What's more, resolution maxes out at 4K@60Hz so games won't run as smoothly as they might (if played at 4K@120Hz). Panel uniformity is very good on the Philips 65OLED807 with no signs of dirty screen effect or banding on brighter patterns. A 5% grey slide held up well with just some mild banding seen in very dark surroundings, however, this is not seen within actual viewing content, even in dark scenes in dim viewing surroundings. We also didn’t encounter any vignetting to the edges of the panel. Last year’s Philips OLED806 was up there with the very best mid-range OLED TVs – but the OLED807 beats its predecessor in pretty much every way.Philips also supports the HGiG system that lets you use set up menus built into your console to establish the best gaming HDR experience, rather than the TV trying to figure out on the fly how best to handle incoming HDR game graphics. For sound, the best options are the Original and Movie modes. Original is best suited to regular TV content, which it reproduces clearly and faithfully, albeit with a touch of sibilance at the top and a little boominess in the bottom. Combining the specs with previous experience suggests that the Philips OLED808 should provide a bigger, weightier sound than the LG C3, but we'll of course fully test the sound when we have the latter in for review. The bar is already fairly low with the LG C3, so Philips could easily take the edge here. Philips OLED808 vs LG C3 OLED: early verdict There’s certainly nothing else out there that looks like it. From its super-sleek metallic sculpting to its immersion-boosting Ambilight system, it looks far more expensive than it actually is.
