Though this book doesn’t necessarily move the overarching plot of the whole series on, (it’s more like a parallel book to ‘A Forest of Vanity and Valour’ rather than a sequel) it gives enough that you can see in future books it will all come together. At least, that’s what I hope.

Esara on the other hand was annoying and a bit 2 dimensional, couldn’t fully get to grip on what age she was supposed to be. Again, my complaint of the book is that it too short and pretty much everything could be expanded on, events, the characters, world building. Everything is just a bit rushed. I wanted more about Zerina getting to know Ulrik, and really solidify the relationship between the three main characters.Along the way the three grow closer together and earn the respect of the crew they've hired. Zerina learns the limits of her magical power, even though many would consider her an outcast because of her abilities. Her choice is to serve or die.
