Description

It’s proof that a game doesn’t need super complex rules to have complex strategy. It is HARD to balance getting resources build buildings with having enough food. Sarah takes the approach of letting herself take loans early in the game to feed so that she can focus on building an engine, whereas Emily feeds to avoid the financial hit of a loan and builds her engine slowly. The game was edited by Uwe Rosenberg and Hanno Girke and the former gets the main cover credit. The illustrator was Klemens Franz while the English translator was Melissa Rogerson. Numerous credits are given to others who assisted with playtesting and other tasks. The game was published by Lookout Games and distributed by Heidelberger Spieleverlag. The digital version of the award-winning 2-player board game by cult author Uwe Rosenberg (2013 nominated best for the Golden Geek 2-player board game in 2013, nominated for the International Gamers Award - Strategy Games: 2-player board games and winner of the International Gamers Awards - Strategy Games: 2 player board game). Each player has one more turn to make and carries out their Final action. It is like the Main action from the Round stage, but you cannot take Supply and Buying actions. End of the Game

The principle of the game is rather simple. A player’s turn consists of two steps: first, distribute newly supplied goods onto the Offer spaces; second, take an action. As an action, you may choose either to take all goods of one type from an Offer space or to use one of the buildings. Buildings allow players to upgrade goods, sell them or use them to build ships and new buildings. Buildings provide an investment opportunity as well as a revenue stream, as all players pay an entry fee to use buildings owned by somebody else. The main use of ships, on the other hand, is to provide the food to feed the workers.Note: In this game, Food can always be replaced 1:1 with Francs. Francs can, however, never be replaced with food. There are two stages in the game: Round stage and Final stage. Each round consists of 7 turns (so, during one round different players make different numbers of turns). During the Final stage, all players carry out their final actions. Round stage The turn in which a ship is placed on the seventh Supply tile is the last in a round. At the end of this turn, the current Round card is resolved and turned over. After this, the first turn of the following round begins with the next player's Supply action on the first Supply tile.

Round Cards: Turn the Round cards to the "Harvest" (or "No Harvest") side, sort them by Round number for the appropriate number of players, and place them face-up on the Round card space on game board 3, with the card for Round 1 on top of the pile. The table on the Round cards shows the card's Round number for different numbers of players; cards without a Round number in the appropriate row are removed from the game). The overall gameplay of Le Havre is simple. A players turn consits of two parts: first you resupply the resource fields and afterwards carry out one action. Available actions are e. g. taking all resources of the same kind from one field or using the abillity of a already build building. Using buildings the player can refine or convert goods, sell goods or build ships or buildings. They are not only an investment, but can actually generate income as using buildings from another player costs a fee. Ships on the other hand a mainly used to get food for your workers. Each round consits of seven player actions and is finished by a harvest phase in which players gain agricultural products and need to feed their workers. After a certain amount of rounds (depending on player count and game mode) every player is allowed to do one last action before the game ends. Buildings and ships have a financial value which is added to the players wealth. In the end, the player with the most money wins. In the Harvest, players receive grain and cattle. A player with at least 1 grain receives 1 additional grain. A player with at least 2 cattle receives 1 additional cattle. In rounds where "no Harvest" is shown, neither grain nor cattle is distributed. Feeding phase Game boards: Place the 3 game boards beside one another in the center of the playing area. They are numbered in the top left-hand corner. The board with the Treasury is to the left, the board with the three Building Proposals is in the center and the board with the Ship spaces is to the right.Playing pieces: Each player takes 1 Person disc, 1 Ship marker and 1 Game turn overview card in his or her color. (Players may choose to turn the Game turn overview card over to show the Buttery). At the end of a round, it is time for Harvest and Feeding. You receive grain and cattle. Then you have to feed your workers. Owning ships helps to do that: every ship you own reduces the amount of food you have to pay the number shown on the ship card. If you cannot provide enough food, you can sell a building or take a Loan card.
