First off, let’s begin by looking at register plates. A register plate is a flat metal sheet that closes off the base of a chimney (it looks a bit like a ceiling above the main fireplace). It’s put in place when you are installing a stove within an existing fireplace. Arceus has the same total Pokéathlon stats (but distributed differently) for all Plates, except the Draco Plate which has a total 1 higher than other Plates. Many register plates feature small access hatches or doors. These are there to provide access to the chimney cavity so that a chimney sweep can still inspect and sweep your chimney etc.

A closure plate is used when a chimney liner, containing flue gases, is present. The closure plate is therefore only required to seal the chimney for cosmetic reasons, to stop soot old soot falling on the stove but also to stop heat disappearing up the chimney and being wasted. If a closure plate developed a fault (e.g.hole) smoke could NOT enter the room as the smoke is contained in a chimney liner. Closure plates tend to be more common than register plates as more and more people choose to use a stove with a chimney flue liner these days. Similarly, Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Pokémon Platinum, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are the only games where the player can obtain more than one of each plate in a single game, with a maximum of 2 per plate.Unlike register plates, closure plates do not require access hatches or doors. Therefore, a closure plate is more for aesthetic reasons – to seal up the base of the chimney cavity where the flue goes up into the chimney. When selecting the size of your closure/register plate the most important thing is to figure out the size of the base of your chimney cavity; your register/closure plate will need to fully seal it up after all. In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, the 16 Plates known at the time are spread far and wide across Sinnoh, and an additional copy of each Plate can also be dug up in the Underground. Closure plates can be made from any non-combustible material. Many people choose to make their closure plates from cement board – made from a combination of cement and reinforcing fibres.
