The characters are well-developed and their interactions contribute to the unique atmosphere of the ward. I wanted to scream at the main character … but more than that I wanted to scream at the author for perpetuating such negative stereotypes about those who suffer from mental illness. The inconsistencies and harmful mental health representation moved this one right to the bottom of my list, and I don’t think I’ll be jumping on the Freida McFadden bandwagon anytime soon after this. She isn't very enthusiastic about it, to say the least, and even dreads it, but has no choice in the matter. when patients and staff start to vanish without a trace, it becomes clear that everyone on the unit is in grave danger.

Additionally, the overuse of the word “crazy” and the suggestion that all mentally ill individuals are inherently violent further reinforces these stereotypes. I don’t recommend this book because it is unable to offer you the courtesy of a decent representation on a certain important matter. In these types of books it is perfectly clear that someone or more than one person will not make it out alive. To me if Canada passes this legislation I so hope they are ostracized by the G20 with severe economic punishing consequences. The whole book revolves around this fear as Amy has to spend the night in the psychiatric ward (as a medical student, not patient). There are even some alternating timeline chapters that leave on a cliffhanger that I just couldn’t wait to see what ended up happening. Derogatory terms were used by the “medical professionals” further adding to this negative portrayal. I give “Ward D” by Freida McFadden a 4/5 for being another gripping psychological thriller in her arsenal that was a solid read.

I’ve read four books by this author so far, and I have to give it to her that her books have a way of sucking you in and making you forget time (at least that’s been my case). The psychiatric care, how the unit functioned, medical ethics, mental illness, and even Amy’s skills are all represented so poorly in this story.

Meanwhile, while Amy struggles to get through the night, she also struggles with something that makes her question her own sanity.

The bubble room is designed so if the fight is too bad for the hospital to put up with the doors are slammed shut on the psychosis patient and he is left in there until he calms down which may be a day or two. Goodreads Librarians are volunteers who help ensure the accuracy of information about books and authors in the Goodreads' catalog. as the hours tick by, amy grows increasingly convinced something terrible is happening within these tightly secured walls.I have noticed that I tend to not like thrillers that have characters with mental illness cause I’ve always thought it seems like a cop out or lazy red herring by the author just to throw readers off and keep them guessing. That I’m some corpse my husband propped up in front of the second-floor window to frighten his guests? In Freida McFadden’s latest psychological thriller, Ward D, readers are taken on a suspenseful journey through the locked doors of a psychiatric ward. Liars offer too much information, babbling on with excessive detail to convince themselves or others of what they are saying. With an array of unpredictable twists, an eclectic cast of characters, and an intriguing blend of past and present narratives, McFadden creates a gripping story that keeps readers guessing until the very end.

I initially wanted to hire a maid in hopes that she would become my replacement—that if Andrew fell in love with another woman, he would finally let me go. There is talk of danger by patients and as Amy tries to make sense of everything, the evening becomes a nightmare. All in all, if you can refrain from having one critical thought while reading this, there's definite entertainment value abound. I'm sure this will be another chart-topper that I'll see in every other TikTok about "shocking thrillers", so congrats I guess. Amy Brenner is a medical student and just recently went through a breakup with her boyfriend, Cameron.I'm not sure if having worked on a psych ward myself made this book that much more entertaining, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
