Dreams Come True • World of Color When captured by Captain Hook, every child in the brig loves Smee – he cannot lay a fist on them and does their darning – despite his belief that they fear him. Hook considers that Smee has good form without knowing it, which is of course the best form of all. He almost tears into Smee for this, but knows that clawing a man for having good form is very bad form. Smee offers to save Wendy Darling from the plank, if only she promises to be his mother – an offer she refuses, in Barrie's words, "Not even for Smee".

Bruce W. Smith, an animator at the Walt Disney Animation Studios, used Captain Hook as a reference when creating Doctor Facilier. According to the (2007 non- canon) novel Capt. Hook: The Adventures of a Notorious Youth, Captain Hook was the illegitimate son of a nobleman, "Lord B", and an unnamed woman Hook has never met (implied to be the Queen). Disowned by Lord B., James Matthew is reared by a Shakespearean actress he calls Aunt Emily, and unwillingly attends Eton College as an Oppidan scholar, where he is an avid reader of Shakespeare and Shelley, and his motto is "Knowledge is Power". He describes many things as first-rate – "Topping Swank", and punctuates his sentences with "The End". He is very interested in the French Revolution. Fluency in Fairy Language: Hook is one of the few characters to exhibit the ability to understand and speak to fairies. In Peter Pan, he was able to communicate directly with Tinker Bell, while in The Pirate Fairy, he is seen conversing with Zarina as though she were speaking English, and translating for the rest of his crew. Hook made a guest cameo at the end of the second episode of Raw Toonage, in which Don Karnage was hosting a segment on treasure hunting. When Karnage finds the treasure chest in question, Hook appears and claims it as his own. They then engage in a swordfight, which Hook wins by pinning Karnage to a tree.
