I have to say, the overall flavour is similar to that of the OG bar– maybe a little too familiar for some – probably owing to the caramel layer. There is some peanut flavour, but it’s much gentler than I, and other peanut lovers like me, would perhaps have liked. Grenade released this flavour in 2016 but, convinced I hated mint chocolate, I’ve waited until now to try it. Yet I think this bar could have been majorly improved if the chocolate flavour was more intense – maybe with a chocolate creme instead of the caramel layer – and the crunch was more pronounced. In other words, it would have been improved if it had actually lived up to its name…EVERY protein bar line has to have some variation on the classic fudge brownie flavour – it’s basically a right of passage at this point. Grenade have followed suit with the third of their Carb Killa flavours, so how does their offering work out?

Like the White Chocolate Salted Peanut, this flavour contains slightly more calories than the earlier bars – 233 calories in this one – and they also contain slightly less protein – 20g compared to 22g in some of the others. Once again Grenade have delivered another great bar and, to be honest, that’s all there is to say. Chocolate Chip Salted Caramel – 10/10 All of Grenade’s flavours give regular chocolate bars a run for their money, but the Oreo bar takes it to the next level. The peanut flavour is perfectly savoury, similar to the White Chocolate Peanut bar, and provides a delightful contrast to the sweet strawberry layer.As usual, the chocolate is good quality and melts as soon as you take a bite. Plus the chocolate chips are a nice addition, making for a more interesting texture and intensifying the creamy cocoa flavour. Like most things, as long as you don’t over consume them…Carb Killas can fit neatly into your diet. Make-sure that the majority of your diet is made of wholesome foods, for example: meat, fish, veg, fruit. If 80% of your diet is made up of foods like this, and the other 20% is made up of protein shake(s), protein bars, and other foods…then you’ll be fine! Question time…

If you’ve ever turned your nose up at something that’s ‘too sweet’, this bar probably isn’t for you. That being said, it’s wonderful. I was worried the chocolate coating would overpower and detract from the whole ‘PB&J’ feel, but it really doesn’t – the flavours actually blend really well. I will definitely be eating this on the regular, but it gets an 8.5 because in the end, it is just a chocolate crunch with orange flavouring… Birthday Cake 5/10 The bar has a soft, slightly chewy nougat centre (made with authentic Oreo cocoa), topped with a layer of vanilla creme (made with authentic Oreo vanilla), sprinkled with, you guessed it, authentic Oreo pieces and coated in a layer of milk chocolate.

What are Grenade Protein Bars?

The strawberry layer adds a nice tang, but it’s not sharp like the raspberry layer in the Dark Chocolate Raspberry bar. Rather than balancing the sweetness, the tang almost emphasises it.
