Despite its complete redesign, the Saucony Triumph 20 continues to be a deeply-cushioned running shoe that makes long-distance runs easy on the feet. The Ghost offers smooth transitions and soft cushioning for road running and is best for those seeking neutral support. Runners’ World has awarded this shoe several Editor’s Choice Awards.

We first began reviewing the Saucony Ride in 2014, so we can say with certain authority that the Ride 15 is the most changed version to date. Our comprehensive review covers all the updates on the new model. David: The Saucony Hurricane 23 is a premium stability shoe for those looking for a high amount of cushioning, while still maintaining a stable platform to run on. The shoe is a durable workhorse and is definitely one of the top in the class. I might have to coin flip between this shoe and another for my favorite stability training shoe, especially in the high cushioned category.Below, the EVA foam-powered cushioning is delivered with a hint of medial side support. Also, the transition is pretty smooth for a dual-density midsole. The outsole is divided into hard-wearing landing zones and soft blown rubber sections to deliver grip and stability. David: The Saucony Hurricane 23 is best at daily and recovery paces. This is not a shoe you are going to be blasting workouts or races in, but if you really have to... the PWRRUN+ midsole still responds pretty well. For me this is my go to easy run shoe at the moment. The weight seems to catch up to me a tiny bit when running longer mileage, but I'm still very happy with it for daily mileage. In the trail running line-up, the 4 mm offset Peregrine 12 got a brand new insole that’s made entirely of the responsive Pwrrun+ (E-TPU) foam. We put the Peregrine through the wringer and liked what we discovered. David: This shoe is a tank in terms of durability. I have about zero wear on the shoe after wear testing it. The ride is still holding up very well in the midsole and the outsole can probably make through a world war + COVID with ease. This is an easy 10 from me. Where they differ most are in the fit and that Saucony is also well known for their casual classic shoes.

The older versions weren’t completely bereft of cushioning comfort, though. A removable EVA foam midsole and E-TPU topsole added a layer of step-in comfort over the firm midsole. Even though there is great flexibility within these shoes, it is important to reiterate that this in no way comes at the cost of support. And remember, just because these are two of the most well known brands on the market, there are still plenty of other shoe brands to select from if neither Brooks nor HOKA has the right shoe for you. The design is surprisingly simple. Start with a breathable upper without overlays across the toes. Add an overlay on the medial and lateral side, which includes the Saucony logo. Throw in a secure heel, decent step-in comfort, and an outsole that performs in wet conditions. Addition by subtraction? Less is more? Yes. I’d prefer a little more depth to the flex grooves, but the ride is both soft and spirited.Over the past couple of years, Saucony revamped most of their shoe designs thanks to two main innovations: the FORMFIT upper construction and from this year the PWRRUN PB sole material. The footbed is brand-new, and is made of the resilient Pwrrun+, a kind of expanded PU foam. As a result, the superficial ride comfort benefits greatly. The Hurricane 23 is wide and roomy around the forefoot, so if you prefer good ventilation around the toes, the Hurricane 23 is definitely the shoe for you. The shoe works best on long distance runs performed at a leisurely pace, or as an everyday training shoe for runners looking for a comfortable and supportive running shoe with maximum comfort.

Unlike many of the other carbon fiber shoes, Brooks says theirs could last up to 400 miles. That’s a pretty significant win for a carbon fiber shoe based on the price we’re all paying! Stability: A (This shoe does exactly what it sets out to do – increase midfoot stability and decrease pronation)

Saucony Hurricane 23 Shoe Specs

It’s almost embarrassing when I realize just how many of these shoes I’ve run in! But that’s 20 years of running! The PWWRUN+ midsole is not only soft but produces a peppy bounce that brings a lot of life to these daily trainers. The lively foam also helps disguise the relatively high weight of the shoe. The combination of support and snap makes Hurricane 23 more than capable of meeting runners' daily training needs but is especially adept at handling longer, slower-paced runs.

Testers found the guidance frame and overlays supported their strides, but didn’t make them feel like they were being muscled around by the shoe. Lakota Gambill Will Neutral Runners Like It? Both brands have been around for a very long time and are leaders in running shoe design. They both offer various technologies to aid with comfort, support, stability, and cushion.Unfortunately the newest model also gained a few oz for them to put in more features. So…you’ll have to decide if it still feels as fast. Both the midsole and the outsole work really well together offering a high level of flexibility and deliver a great transition as your foot works its way through the gait cycle.
