Lionsgate recently shot The Royals, a soapy Us drama about the British royal family starring Liz Hurley, in London. I suspect the filmmakers thought this was a smart, down-with-the-kids move; if so, I can't help but feel it's a misjudgment, a serious overestimation of the development of the four-year-old's irony circuit. Written and produced by football journalist and TV presenter Matt Lorenzo, it will be directed by Finn McGough, who will also co-write with Lorenzo. After the success of Frozen and The Lego Movie, it's perhaps understandable to have high expectations for upcoming animated fare. Just because a film is made with younger viewers in mind doesn't give those behind it an excuse to phone it in. Recently, the likes of Postman Pat: The Movie and The Nut Job will have tested the patience of mums and dads dragged along to the multiplex, but there's no such problem with Laika's latest offering The Boxtrolls. Elsewhere, the chart saw new releases A Million Ways to Die in the West and Jimmy's Hall bow at numbers four and ten respectively.

Kermode, Mark (25 May 2014). "Postman Pat: The Movie review – shiny, slightly scary spin-off". The Observer. It’s a more involved and in depth story than you get in the Postman Pat tv episodes, and perhaps a little more mature so younger or more sensitive viewers may be scared by the Pat-Bots depending on the child. Mr R was 2 when he first saw this in the cinema (now 3) and he was fine. Mr T (4) was initially scared so he didn’t see this in the cinema but when watching at home he didn’t feel scared and he loved the movie. Mr Z is 6 years old so getting a little old for Postman Pat but because this movie is more mature and has a more in depth story line he really liked it, both when watching in the cinema and when re-watching with the DVD at home. He said it was excellent, and I do think it’s a great choice for the whole family. It is an enjoyable movie and the whole cast have done a great job. The DVD cover had the film first rated as PG, this was later revived to its original U certificate before publication. It's a surreal thing to have that claim. When Pat gets home and tries to tell Sara about the fact that the honeymoon is cancelled because the new boss has cancelled all bonuses, his son Julian (Sandra Teles) shows Pat a television talent show, You're the One, hosted by Simon Cowbell ( Robin Atkin Downes in a typical Simon Cowell voice), who states the next auditions are coming to Greendale. Cowbell also confirms that the person who wins the contest will be awarded a holiday to Italy and a recording contract.
