I recommend it to all of my girl friends and I think every guy should read it as well. Ruiz also wrote The Four Agreements...very good read but I liked Mastery of Love more b/c as a girl that has grown up in a (pleasantly) divorced family, I am a skeptic of love and it’s hard for me to open up.

So in asking yourself who was in the wrong, was it the woman who doubted for a moment? No, it was the man who decided to place his entire happiness in someones hands. If we place all of our happiness in the control of others, how can we ever expect to be happy? It is entirely up to us to be happy, and if we choose to be happy with someone else, we're all the better. We cannot rely on them to make us happy. As grown-ups, we can all relate to the times when we were punished or reprimanded just for being too playful as kids. As if, it is bad to express your innate proclivity towards playing and expressing joy. It is impossible not to notice that the risk-reward system is corrupt to the very core.Expectations & the constant desire to change someone according to our own "dream" adds friction to the relationships with friends & family. We give control of our happiness to others as soon as we have expectations from others, and end up setting ourselves for failure. At these words, the joy in the man's heart was strong. He could hardly wait to serve the Master and to express his love for him.
