I like these supermarket toms - in fact I grew them from saved supermarket seed many years ago - I just can't remember how they turned out. Lycopersicon esculentum, more commonly known as the tomato, is a plant in the nightshade family that is native to South America. The tomato is a popular fruit that is used in many different dishes around the world. The plant grows to a height of about 2-3 meters and has small, yellow flowers. The fruit of the plant is a red, fleshy berry that is eaten raw or cooked. Tomato Moneymaker is an old (cosidered heirloom) but still popular variety. Excellent for outside production. The medium sized ruits grow on semi-bush plants. Staking is required and the plants give a good production. Excellent tomato for outside growing. Place your tomato seeds about an inch down into fresh soil and water regularly; soon, you will see a small tomato plant sprout! Keep your plants in a south facing window to ensure they get adequate sunlight. While your potted cherry tomato plant may be more fruitful than an in-ground cherry tomato plant due to their controlled environment, the main benefit of choosing a potted tomato plant is that you can bring your potted plant indoors when the weather begins to get cold.

Marmande is a great producer. The fruits are large weighing up to 200 grams and there are about 5 on each truss. The meaty fruits are great for cooking and grilling on a summer barbecue. A well know beefsteak variety, it has been around for a long time because crops reliably even outdoors. I think I'll give this a spin - plant the F1 seeds from the supermarket toms and hope that I get at least some of the more decent de-hybridized offspring. Cherrola is a hybrid cherry tomato. The plants produce large trusses, and give high yields. It has a moderate tolerance to blight. One truss can bear up to 30 sweet fruits. Can be grown outside or in the greenhouse.

An advantage of planting in pots is you can move your tomato plants if you notice the original spot is not ideal. While the pots will be heavy, it is easier than digging up a bush. How Do I Care For Potted Cherry Tomato Plants? The name of this stripy courgette suggests that it is shaped like a small flute, which is quite appealing. The majority of tomato varieties are indeterminate, with heirlooms and cherry varieties being the most common. Tomatoes are high in vitamins and minerals, which help to keep you healthy. They have a high level of vitamin C, which aids in the body’s many functions. Shirley tomatoes are early forms of tomatoes that produce large, short-jointed trusses that yield good-shaped fruits. Tomatoes, a major source of carotenoids, have been linked to a variety of health benefits, including a lower risk of cancer and heart disease. Tomatoes, which contain an alkaloid called solanine, can cause joint swelling and pain if consumed in excess. Piccolo is a cordon cherry tomato that grows well in greenhouse conditions. It produces reliable crops of long, cascading fruit trusses with uniform, round, red cherry fruits, as well as whole trusses ripening at the same time, making it ideal for use as ‘on the vine’ tomatoes. Piccolo cherry tomatoes have a sweet and balanced flavor that is enhanced by an intense tomato aroma. It will appeal to chefs and home cooks who want a tomato with a distinct, sweet flavor. Can You Grow Piccolo Tomatoes?

Choose two plants that have qualities you would like to combine in a new plant. First, remove the anthers from a newly opened flower with your fingers or a pair of tweezers, to create a seedbearing parent. As mentioned at the beginning of the article, you can successfully grow Piccolo tomatoes from seed. It is recommended to start your tomato plants indoors about eight weeks before you want to transplant your tomato crops into your outdoor garden. Be sure that your pot has good drainage holes on the bottom, and be sure to add a few more if you feel there are not enough. Place your tomato pots in a sunny spot in your yard or on your patio. Tomatoes need at least six hours of sun every day, with over nine hours of optimal sun. This option even provides peace of mind for those early spring or late summer nights when the temperature drops more than expected. Since you can bring your potted tomato plants indoors when the nights begin to get cold, your potted plants will continue to produce fruits! Most cherry tomato plant varieties are indeterminate and will produce fruit in late summer or early fall if the temperature allows them to. Final Thoughts

Root rot is devastating to any plant, and potted plants are highly susceptible if they do not have proper drainage. It is recommended to feed your potted tomato plants with an appropriate vegetable fertilizer weekly after your plant has been given a few weeks to adjust to its new surroundings. Marmande produces large fruits on indeterminate plants. The fruits are weighing up to 200 grams. The meaty tomatoes are great for cooking and grilling on a summer barbecue.

In 1-2 years, the Lycopersicon esculentum ‘Piccolo’ (Tomato ‘Piccolo’) can reach a height of 0.5 meters and a spread of 0.5 meters. Infestation is common in tomato plants such as the Piccolo Late Blight Phytopthora. Potato Famine caused by this fungus is well-known. Potato diseases are the most common, but they can also affect vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. The fungus prefers humid weather (50 to 80 degrees F) as well as wet weather (40 to 45 degrees F). Almost overnight, the whole beds of tomatoes and potatoes in Western Washington rotted away. This disease has an impact on yield, but it has no effect on storability (don’t replant these). If the growing conditions are favorable, it is best to use resistant varieties when planting this disease. It’s a good idea to remove any volunteers or solanum weeds as spores only overwinter in living plants. Like tomato plants in the ground, potted tomato plants benefit from tomato cages for extra support. You can choose a traditional tomato cage, but experienced gardeners recommend a snap together cage that allows the user to form the cage to your plant’s unique shape and needs. Do Potted Tomato Plants Produce More Tomatoes? You can grow Piccolo tomato from seeds or from small plants found at your local seed and garden store. You also choose to grow your Piccolo and other cherry tomatoes in-ground or in pots. Caring for your Piccolo or other cherry tomato varieties is simple.Tomatoes are the world’s most popular fruit, and there are countless varieties available. Some are big, some are small, and some are in between. And while there are many different types of tomatoes, there is one thing that all tomatoes have in common: they all grow on plants. So, how tall are piccolo tomato plants? Well, it depends on the variety of piccolo tomato. Some varieties can grow to be quite large, while others stay relatively small. But on average, piccolo tomato plants are about 2-3 feet tall. So, if you’re looking for a tomato plant that won’t take up too much space, a piccolo tomato plant is a good option. Just keep in mind that the size of the fruit will be proportionate to the size of the plant, so don’t expect to get large tomatoes from a small plant. Their seeds are suitable for container gardens, including compact and dwarf varieties that fit like a glove into the small spaces of a terrace. Caring for your potted tomato plants requires a bit more attention than your in-ground tomato plants. A gardener needs to water their potted cherry tomato plants daily. Be sure that your cherry tomato plants are in pots with proper drainage to avoid water and moisture build-up leading to root rot. Seems there is a slight suspicion that they might not (any longer) be heirloom, instead are now somesort of F1
