Good old water, aka H2O. The most common skincare ingredient of all. You can usually find it right in the very first spot of the ingredient list, meaning it’s the biggest thing out of all the stuff that makes up the product. Like with ceramides, the amount of hyaluronic acid in our bodies decreases as we get older. As the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin reduces, the skin is more likely to start sagging or develop wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid also plays an important role in wound repair. The most common type offeared-by-everyone-mostly-without-scientific-reason parabens. It's a cheap, effective and well-tolerated ingredient to make sure the cosmetic formula does not go wrong too soon. Since the lotion is non-comedogenic, oil-free and fragrance-free, it can be used safely on acne prone skin.

I compared the ingredient lists between the two, and noticed that there were slight differences, with the UK version containing additional skin conditioning agents. The ingredients were, however, mostly the same. It's a type of lipid, a so-calledsphingoid base that can be found naturally in the upper layer of the skin. It's found both in "free-form" and as part of famous skin lipids, ceramides. It is also non-comedogenic, though its pure form is very heavy and greasy so combination and oily skin typesmight want to avoid it anyway. Therefore, applying CeraVe products which contain 3 essential ceramides directly to the skin can help to protect it's barrier and retain moisture. The skin is left feeling hydrated, moisturised and comfortable all-day long! Key Ingredients In The CeraVe Moisturising Cream:Although the CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion is recommended for dry skin, I feel that it could be used by all skin types. ALL DAY HYDRATION: Formulated with patented MVE Technology to release skin nourishing ingredients... In itself, it's an antistatic (stops your hair from flying around because of electricity), hair conditioning and softening ingredient used mainly in haircare products. A very common emollient that makes your skin feel nice and smooth. Comes from coconut oil and glycerin, it’s light-textured, clear, odorless and non-greasy. Ceramides make up 50% of the outer layer of our skin, and help to form a barrier to protect your skin from the environment. As we age the amount of ceramides in our skin decreases and this can result in drier skin, wrinkles and fine lines.

It is also believed that skin conditions such as eczema are as a result of a compromised skin barrier, and fewer ceramides in the skin. The famous Vaseline orPetroleum Jelly. Just like mineral oil, it is also a by-product of refining crude oil, aka petroleum, and it is also a mixture ofhydrocarbons but with bigger (C18-90+) carbon chain length. It’s pretty much the current IT- preservative. It’s safe and gentle, but even more importantly, it’s not a feared-by-everyone-mostly-without-scientific-reason paraben. Please note: While we try to ensure that product information is correct, on occasion manufacturers may alter their ingredient lists. If you have normal, dry, or combination skin and you don’t suffer from acne, you may want to try the Aveeno or Vanicream lotions since they contain shea butter which is good at toning and soothing the skin. Personally, I liked the CeraVe lotion better because it has no fragrance, unlike the Aveeno and Vanicream products. The Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion was the only other out of the five that was also non-comedogenic. For this reason both the CeraVe product and the Cetaphil product can be used on oily or acne prone skin. As for skincare, it makes the skin silky smooth, creates a subtle gloss and forms a protective barrier (aka occlusive). Also, works well to fill in fine lines and wrinkles and give skin a plump look (of course that is only temporary, but still, it'snice). There are also scar treatment gels out there using dimethicone as their base ingredient. It helps to soften scars and increase their elasticity. Super common little helper ingredient thathelps products to remain nice and stable for a longer time. It does so by neutralizing the metal ions in the formula (that usually get into there from water) that would otherwise cause some not so nice changes.

It's one of the important lipids that can be found naturally in the outer layer of the skin. About 25% of the goopy stuff between our skin cells consists of cholesterol.I have very dry skin and found that the lotion did a good job of moisturizing my skin and reducing dry patches.
