Description

Specialist is defined by the APC as a clinician who has undertaken an appropriate formal qualification or recognised training programme within the described area of practice and has a working experience and knowledge within a speciality area

Prevention of vitamin D deficiency or treatment of vitamin D insufficiency: 1-2 capsules (1 000- 2 000 IU) daily. Higher doses may be required in certain populations, see below:Medicines that should be initiated by a specialist and prescribed by primary care prescribers only under a shared care protocol, once the patient has been stabilised.

Because Vitamin D promotes calcium absorption, it is important for bone mineralization (hardening), which keeps your bones strong and supple. A sufficient amount of Vitamin D helps prevent joint pain and osteoporosis.Vitamin D is produced in equal amounts in both people with fairly pigmented and darkly pigmented skin after exposure to UVB radiation (sunlight). Sunlight is important for Vitamin D production, but the strength of sunlight and the intensity of UVB exposure can be affected by season, distance from the equator, and even personal habits. If you have a job that keeps you indoors during daylight hours, or you work nights, you don’t produce as much Vitamin D as someone who is outside for at least ten to fifteen minutes each day. Benefits of Vitamin D Tablets may be crushed and dispersed in water if needed. Liquid can be made specially if required. See here for general advice on dispersing tablets. Drugs leading to fat malabsorption, e.g. orlistat, liquid paraffin, cholestyramine, may impair the absorption of Colecalciferol. If you are unsure whether Valupak Vitamin D 3 is safe for you, speak to your doctor or ask a pharmacist for advice. Who Should Not Take Valupak Vitamin D 3? Never share your medicine or health supplements with anybody else, even if they are experiencing the same symptoms as you or have diagnosed with the same condition as you.

A supporting prescribing guideline may be requested which must have been agreed by the relevant secondary care trust DTCs and approved by the Nottinghamshire APC. Colecalciferol 1000 IU Capsules should be used with caution in patients with impairment of renal function and the effect on calcium and phosphate levels should be monitored. The risk of soft tissue calcification should be taken into account. In patients with severe renal insufficiency, vitamin D in the form of Colecalciferol is not metabolised normally and other forms of vitamin D should be used. Government guidance suggests that most if not all people in the UK should consider a vitamin D supplement during the winter months. Colecalciferol 1 000 IU Capsules are not recommended during pregnancy unless the clinical condition of the woman requires treatment. You should also speak to your doctor if you are taking any other medication, including complementary medications. Valupak Vitamin D 3 And Other MedicationsGrey / Non-Formulary: Medicines, which the Nottinghamshire APC has actively reviewed and does not recommend for use at present due to limited clinical and/or cost effective data. The need for additional calcium supplementation should be considered for individual patients. Calcium supplements should be given under close medical supervision. No new patients to receive prescriptions in primary care. Patients already receiving Red Medicines in primary care should be handled on a case by case basis with the support of the Medicines Optimisation team. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. This includes any medicines which you have bought without a prescription.
