Studley Royal deer park is set within the grounds of Fountains Abbey and is home to over 500 red, fallow, and sika deer. Try keeping your camera completely level, and walking down the steps until you have the right balance of foreground/sky. This will ensure that those verticals are all dead straight. From experience, you’ll also find that you can include one of the old, antiquated lamps in the left of your composition, and all the elements complement each other nicely. Waves: The area is known for its powerful waves, providing excellent opportunities for capturing their motion, either freezing them in time or creating silky smooth long-exposure shots. Had a great day out in the Lake District with Paul on a 1 to 1 Landscape Workshop. I came away with some great pictures & a lot of confidence. I would definitely recommend Paul's services. You never feel rushed & he is happy to stay at each location trying different camera angles & filters until you are happy with your results." for a better tutor. You immediately put me at ease, advised me on settings and chose some great locations. There was so much for me to take away from the day."

These are small birds, so I like to get as low as possible by lying on the wet sand; warm waterproof clothing is essential for this kind of shooting. For closer portraits, you may need to stop the lens down (reduce the aperture) to f/8 or even f/11 to bring the whole of the animal’s head into focus. Hares have a long face, so there is a quite a distance between the tip of the nose and the ears when it’s facing you. A smaller aperture will increase the depth of field and bring these features into focus when focusing on the eyes.

There are also ‘ground pods’ available which can be slid quite easily, onto which you either rest the lens or attach a tripod head. A simple DIY option is to use a small baking tray to house a bean bag. It’s then quite easy to push the tray along the ground with the bean bag and camera/lens in position, with the bonus that you are ready to shoot once you’re close enough without having to make any sudden movements and blow your cover. We will meet at 5:30pm on the first evening for an introductory talk and discussion before dinner on each participants needs and aims – an essential aspect of ensuring that every participant gets as much as possible from the course. You will also at this stage be briefed on the programme for the next 3 days. However, when you combine the soft, rolling countryside of the Yorkshire Wolds, the moorland and gritstone of the South Pennines, and also many varied locations outlying industrial West Yorkshire, it becomes apparent that you could spend a lifetime here with a camera, and barely scratch the surface of what’s accessible. Breeding can actually take place throughout the spring and summer, but it is most visible during early spring when the vegetation in their courting fields is low and the hares are easily spotted as they race around in a frenzied state of excitement. There is something about a hare’s outsized ears that makes it incredibly appealing, and they’re always very popular with photographers. Thought to have been introduced into Britain in Roman times, the brown hare is now considered to be naturalised and is an accepted and much-admired mammal of the British countryside. The other standout highlight in the Dales is the fascinating limestone pavements. Although these geological wonders can be found elsewhere in the UK, the Dales is blessed with a large number of attractive examples, and combined with the beautiful surrounding scenery they’re a photographer’s playground. First, you must spot a hare before it spots you. Once a hare is aware of you then your cover is blown and you’ll never get close enough to secure a useable picture. Around the first week of June the meadows should be a blaze of colour, with various wildflowers reaching their peak. The dry stone walls and ancient field barns obviously feature in lots of images, but why not go for a more impressionist approach. If you do not have these particular lenses, do not worry; something similar will be just fine. A tripod is also highly recommended to capture those epic sunsets and night shots. Best Photography Spots in Yorkshire Dales National Park The Yorkshire Dales has some of the most photogenic waterfalls in the UK, ranging from the modest but elegant Scaleber Force to the lofty heights of Hawdraw Force. It’s well worth visiting the area for these alone, but it also has plenty of other amazing photography locations to explore, such as impressive viaducts, heather-clad moorlands and picturesque valleys with lonely barns and intricate field patterns.
