Description

The mechanical watches in the Seiko 5 collection have been enchanting watch lovers around the world since the early 1960s. It is one of the best-selling automatic watch lines worldwide and has always been aimed at sporty watch enthusiasts who are young at heart. The ref. SNZG13K1 is paired with a three-piece link stainless steel bracelet. The ref. SNZG15K1 is an identical timepiece, but mounted on a textile strap. Both versions start at around 180 USD.

For over 50 years, Seiko 5 Sports has delivered consistently high levels of reliability, durability, performance and value, endearing them to lovers of mechanical watches worldwide. Today, with a new design, this much-loved timepiece is re-born. Seiko’s exclusive 7S26 calibre automatic movement powers this watch, it consists of 21 jewels and it offers an accuracy of -45/+45 seconds per day. This watch has a water resistance of 30 metres, meaning it should only be exposed to light splashes of water.

The SRPE77’s Ice Blue Dial

The mechanism within the watch is 4R36 automatic movement which is built in house and the calibre is comprised of 24 Jewels and a 41 hour power reserve.

The bracelet has an 18mm lug width, and here, there are countless different replacement straps to choose from. The dimensions of the Seiko 5 Sports case are well documented particularly because they drew so much inspiration from its beloved predecessor, the SKX. Nevertheless, it’s still worthwhile to list them: This watch is the ultimate testament to the fact that affordable does not have to equal ”bad” or ”low quality”. The watch is simple but works. It is very straightforward and simply a nice watch. Ceaseless determination to innovate in every aspect of the watchmaker’s art is what defines Seiko’s 135-year history. By embracing this ethos, Seiko has been responsible for a string of industry-leading advances in the technology of time. Notably, the creation of the world’s first quartz watch in 1969. Or equally impressive the creation of the world’s first TV watch in 1982. And even more relevant today, with our abhorrent use of non-renewable energy sources, Seiko’s Kinetic. This watch had the ability to generate its own power from the movement of the wearer, it was released in 1988. The listed technological developments serve as evidence to illustrate the revolutionary impact which Seiko has had on the watchmaking world. They are also remarkably unique in that they manufacture every aspect of every watch in-house. They even grow their own quartz crystals and sapphires, hence why Seiko are renowned for being watchmaking experts. The lugs possess lug holes which make it incredibly easy to change the strap on this SRPE77. Indeed, a simple paperclip will be enough to remove the current steel bracelet and implant a different strap. That being said, I’m not sure why you’d want to change out this awesome steel band (more on the band later). Moving on to the mechanical machine beating inside this SRPE77 – the Seiko 4R36 self-winding movement. I've ridden a motorcycle through three different countries, the Alps, through rain storms and it has kept time admirably.
