Description

The HP OMEN 27i is a FreeSync gaming monitor, but its also certified to be G-Sync compatible for Nvidia users. It’s a great choice if you are upgrading with the new RTX 3080, but it will also pair great with the upcoming Big Navi GPUs. Input lag sits at 4ms at 165Hz, so there is no need to worry about delays while playing competitively. Thoughts on the HP OMEN 27i Call of Duty WWII is our usual HDR test, but it looks pretty good in SDR mode too when there is this much color available. Urban rubble showed its rough textures, fine shades of gray and earth tones. Smoke and mist effects were smooth and clean without banding or artifacts. Small bits of color from uniforms shone nicely.

Information about whether there is a possibility for wall mounting according to the VESA Mounting Interface Standard (MIS). Arsenic and its compounds were not detected using U.S. EPA test methods 3052/6010b by ICP-AES with a Method Detection Limit of 10 ppm. Windows instantly recognized the Omen 27i’s 165 Hz refresh and G-Sync Compatibility. No changes were necessary in the Nvidia Control panel. FreeSync also worked right off the bat when we hooked the monitor up to our AMD-based gaming PC.HP is of course a veteran of putting together solid electronic devices, and the Omen 27i has the build quality and polish that you would expect: it's a really well made gaming monitor, and would suit those looking for something that isn't quite as flashy or as dominating (or as expensive) as a lot of its competitors.

Next, the Nano IPS panel offers vibrant colors with 98% DCI-P3 gamut – that’s equivalent to ~135% sRGB! You get vivid and lifelike colors, especially when it comes to reds and greens. The HP OMEN 27i exceeds its brightness rating at 368 cd/m2, but its contrast is quite low at 822:1 at 60% brightness. It’s one of the lowest results we’ve seen from the newer IPS models, where some like the Asus VG27AQL1A has already breached 1000:1. The screen has that extra color-pop, but it can look grayish or washed out in dark scenes. Information about the maximum horizontal viewing angle, within which the image on the screen is of acceptable quality.

Size class of the display as declared by the manufacturer. Often this is the rounded value of the actual size of the diagonal in inches. Visit our comprehensive and always up-to-date best gaming monitor buyer’s guide for more displays and information. Conclusion We only wish it had an sRGB emulation mode – if it did, we are sure it’d be a much stronger rival to the more popular LG 27GP850 thanks to its attractive design. Specifications Screen Size inch QHD screens are perfect for just about any kind of computer use thanks to its excellent pixel density. You won’t need scaling with this monitor and it will look extra crisp and detailed while playing games. The downside is you get a considerable increase in GPU requirements, so making sure you have an upper mid to top range card is crucial for smooth gaming performance.Moving on, the monitor has a peak brightness of 350-nits, which is more than sufficient under normal lighting conditions. The display covers 98 percent of the DCI-P3 colour space, making it ideal for professional creatives as well as gamers, and there's 10-bit colour depth. With those sorts of stats, HDR isn't as important as it might otherwise be, and we certainly didn't find that the absence of High Dynamic Range spoiled the viewing experience. It's a great screen for your video streaming, besides everything else Once tweaked, this is a very accurate monitor. There is no sRGB mode, so you’ll be seeing the expanded color gamut with all content. As stated earlier, there is no HDR support. Design is always a subjective call, but we quite like the angular, curve-free look of the Omen 27i monitor, and we think that a lot of other people will as well. The device is simple to configure and easy to set up, and the majority of users are going to do just fine using the calibration settings that the display has out of the box.

This means that you will get over-saturated colors unless you calibrate and profile the monitor using a dedicated colorimeter. Some users actually prefer the extra saturation, while others would’ve preferred the more natural look of an sRGB emulation. Fast-refresh gaming monitors are easy to find for cheap these days. So too are professional monitors with accurate color. But few monitors provide both, and that's where the Omen 27i shines.

Another advantage of IPS technology is the 178° wide viewing angles, which ensure that the image is consistent regardless of the angle you’re looking at the screen; there are no shifts in brightness, contrast, gamma, or color at skewed angles. There's no doubt at this price and at this size, the HP Omen 27i is one of the best gaming monitors around. For as long as we were using it, and for whatever purpose we put it to, the display shone in terms of its contrast and colours, so much so that we didn't notice the absence of HDR (though that is a point against the screen). If you are using a variable refresh rate (VRR), be it AMD FreeSync or NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible, and your frame rate is fluctuating a lot, the Level 1 setting provides more consistent performance across the entire refresh rate range since it still looks very good at 165Hz/FPS. The dynamic contrast shows the ratio between the brightest and the darkest color, which the display can reproduce over time, for example, in the course of playing a video.
