Higson was well-educated in his youth, attending the prestigious Sevenoaks School. He went on to study at the University of East Anglia. Interestingly enough, he met several fellow friends there, and his brother went on to teach there for over a decade. While studying at school, he formed a band with two friends of which he was the lead singer for six years. They even released two recorded singles. Ian's childhood with his gifted brother Peter and his extraordinary mother set the pattern for his ambition to be 'the complete man', and he would strive for the means to achieve this 'completeness' all his life. Only a thriller writer for his last twelve years, his dramatic personal life and impressive career in Naval Intelligence put him at the heart of critical moments in world history, while also providing rich inspiration for his fiction. Double or Die (2007): The third Young Bond novel is set entirely in England during Christmas and finds James searching for a missing schoolmaster in the darkest corners of London. The book involves Russian spies attempting to build an early computer. The title of the book was chosen by fans via an online poll and kept secret until the day of publication. [5]

John Gardner, who had written fourteen original novels and two novelizations featuring the adult Bond, was also critical of the series prior to the release of the first book. He stated: James Bond is, without doubt, the daddy of all literary spies. His name is synonymous with intrigue and adventure, action and old-fashioned derring-do. So Silverfin, the first in a series of Charlie Higson’s fully authorised prequels to the most famous of all British Secret Service agents, has mightily big boots to fill. Fortunately, Higson is a genuine Bond aficionado who has remained true to the style of Ian Fleming’s creation, and his legend, to create an authentic story featuring a teenage Bond that should not disappoint other equally appreciative fans. On His Majesty’s Secret Service will be published on Thursday 4 May ahead of the Coronation on Saturday 6 May – and 60 years after the publication of Ian Fleming’s tenth novel, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, in 1963. All royalties from the sale of the book will go to support the work of the UK charity, the National Literacy Trust. With the prospect of summer vacation tempting him, he’s excited to go on an upcoming school trip. The trip will take them to Sardinia, a gorgeous Italian island. On top of that, he is looking forward to the chance to get to hang out with his cousin Victor. Not everything is as it appears at first glance on this island, however. LONDON. Charlie Higson, author of the bestselling Young Bond series, has been commissioned by Ian Fleming Publications to write a new James Bond adventure to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III, it is announced today, Friday 31 March. The series' prestige is obvious from the wide amounts of critical acclaim it has received over the years: On 11 August 2008 Puffin Books announced the first Young Bond alternate reality game (ARG), The Shadow War. [35] The online game started on 23 August, when Charlie Higson set the first mission during his appearance at the Edinburgh International Book Festival. In the game, players around the world use a range of media, including the Young Bond books themselves and the World Wide Web, to complete the missions and influence the outcome of the game. Charlie Higson took part in a live online event that concluded the game on 8 October 2008. [36] Illustrations [ edit ] In addition to writing plenty of popular works in print, he has also contributed to many series– both original and collaborative. He has released a graphic novel and worked in entertainment for a long time. He currently resides in London along with his family.

Chapter One of SilverFinbegins with the following line: ‘The smell and noise and confusion of a hallway full of schoolboys can be quite awful at twenty past seven in the morning.’My first Young Bond novel was published in 2005 and my final Young Bond story, ‘A Hard Man to Kill’ was released in 2009.That seemed to be the end of that particular era of my writing. The action of this entirely new 007 adventure brings Bond into the present day. It is the 4th of May, two days before the coronation of King Charles III and the world's favourite spy has his work cut out for him. Bond is sent at the last minute to thwart an attempt to disrupt the Coronation by the wealthy, eccentric and self-styled Athelstan of Wessex, who is on a deadly mission of his own to teach the United Kingdom a lesson. Can Bond dismantle his shady plans and defeat his privately hired team of mercenaries? John Gardner, who had written fourteen original novels and two novelisations featuring the adult Bond, was also critical of the series prior to the release of the first book. He stated:

In September 2016, the title of Cole's fourth and final Young Bond novel was revealed to be Red Nemesis. [21] Main series [ edit ] With the release of the Hurricane Gold book TAMBA and Fleming media released the Avenue of Death game which is based on one of the chapters in the book. SilverFin The Graphic Novel released in UK". The Young Bond Dossier. Archived from the original on 12 February 2009 . Retrieved 2 October 2008. But I also understand IFPs dilemma. They are marketing these editions to a mass audience and they have to deal with the times we are in. For those who want the unedited texts, you can certainly still find those. And maybe some day the texts will be returned to the original. I'm not sure if these changes will make these 70th Anniversary editions more collectible or less so, but they better have some pretty spectacular cover art to overcome the taint that I think these will forever have for Fleming purists.Charlie also worked in different fields and jobs before moving onto writing full-time. He worked as a plaster worker and even turned to writing and performing comedy on stage. He achieved some measure of success and recognition when he became not only of the writers but performers on a popular sketch show airing on the BBC Two. The show aired for six years and was called The Fast Show. It ended in 2000. He also wrote a book on it along with his friend Paul. The book was nonfiction and was released in 2006.
