Description

The faders are the same inverted fader technology found on the S5/S8 controllers (which was a big improvement over the earlier S4 and S2s). These faders significantly reduce dust and dirt that enters standard fader configurations, causing them to fail over time. It was a common occurrence with the original S4 MK1 that one or two faders would eventually start jittering and ghosting. That has not been the case on my S5, and in testing the new S4 MK3, the faders felt really, really nice. It's an extremely honourable offering. I'm just bummed I didn't grab it for €759 before it rose in price to €899! However, unlike Denon and Numark who opted for a system with a moving platter and slip mat, NI chose a high torque motor to move their capacitive wheels. You can choose between a spinning turntable mode or a more traditional static nudge wheel with adjustable tension. The tension control is directly adjusted on the unit by holding the TT button and rotating the jogs. This is a great feature and this genuinely creates jog wheel tension that feels far superior to mechanical offerings found on units such as the DDJ 1000. They all sound great, and frankly this simplifying of effects is long overdue, putting great sounding effects right at the fingertips of DJs who may have been daunted by all the options and menus of software effects in the past.

The pad buttons are somewhat smaller though the spacing actually works better for your fingers when compared to the earlier versions. They work exactly as they always have done – but we suspect they are going to get less use than previously due to those Mixer FX… Library controls Extremely satisfying experience with great resolution on both fast and slow scratches”– read more about the Kontrol S4 in our review: https://djtech.tools/s4mk3review The knobs are all recessed, each with an orientation in both the EQ section as well as the gain, giving it a more classic mixer FX feel. Pads This article explains how to switch between the LINE and PHONO levels on the input channels of TRAKTOR audio interfaces equipped with this feature. The PHONO signal level is required when connecting a turntable as part of a TRAKTOR Scratch Timecode vinyl setup or as an external audio source (Live Input) from a vinyl record playing. One of the most commonly cited reasons is the fact that they have, for the longest time, kept a relatively standard setup with their controllers, choosing to forgo any newer updates.

Seriously, this motorized jog wheels felt more like a real and authentic turntable mode than any other I’ve ever used. As a result, the new Mixer FX is separate from its 4 FX banks. This allows for simpler effects while still allowing the more nuanced options in the 4 FX banks. If you’re one of the many people that have become a huge fan of the Traktor DJ product line, there’s probably a lot of different reasons why you have! Plug-and-play integration with Native Instruments' Traktor Pro 3 (included) and Traktor DJ gets you up and running in no time Pulling out the master section was a bit strange to me at first, as it upsets the symmetry – but with further testing and use I found it to be a welcome update and much more like a professional mixer than controller. The unit now allows for clear and visible displays of channel meters. The master meters are also properly sized and, as a result, much more practically applicable than older versions. Onto the main event, those large motorised haptic drive jog wheels. These 5” capacitive units are much larger than jog wheels found on previous NI controllers and thats no bad thing. They are responsive, feel great under the finger and sport a stylish fading LED needle indicator around the brim. This however isn’t the reason why everyone is talking about them. That would be because now, they move. Spinning platters on controllers isn’t a completely new concept, Numark have had moving units on the NS7 for years and Denon recently introduced a motorised version of their SC5000 media player. The individual channel meters are much more clear and visible, they also happen to look better as well. That’s not the only place Native Instruments has done a bit of an overhaul on. The Traktor Kontrol S4 MK3 has also undergone a complete makeover, as the functionality, layout, and design language have all been broken down and rebuilt from the ground up into something else entirely.
