And finally, the Type-A personalities that come through the door who are interested in “instant gratification” must forget this concept or forever be frustrated with teaching and instructors. I know many students who have walked into my door coming from other teachers complaining about not getting any better and it takes me about three minutes to understand why — it is not the former instructor’s fault, but the attitude of the student himself. Chapter 5 - This is a short chapter that mainly discusses how important it is to learn how to manipulate the position of the golf club throughout the swing through the feel of various wrist/hand positions. For example, a golfer should never try to put the golf club in a perfect position at the top by the means of conscious manipulation, but rather learn what a perfect position at the top feels like through the process of "educating the hands." Meanwhile, a hitter creates club acceleration and impact with muscular force of the right arm. Essentially, the swinger pulls the clubhead down to impact position. But the hitter has more of a push motion instead. Teachers are hindered by student’s attitudes, physiology, practice time and desire — it is up to the student to listen, absorb and apply the information given in the classroom (the lesson tee) in the best way for them personally. Sometimes this take two seconds, two minutes or two weeks, but if students review the lesson tape they are given they will see what the instructor is trying to do over the long haul. And if they have questions, they need to ask! That is what teachers are there for in the first place! Either one of these swings can be used alone or combined with specific aspects of the other, and each can be modified by adopting any of the multitudes of possible combinations. The key is to find the simplest swing that YOU can utilize to produce the power and accuracy you need to play the game of golf with skill.

I know very early in my teaching career, I tried to force most people into a model swing. It was one that was way too complex for some levels of players to understand, yet alone achieve, without hitting balls for several months. While there are a lot of great choices in this area, Zen Golf is concise, clear and very enlightening. This book will show you how to prepare for, execute, and respond, despite the results during your round. While it is a different approach to instruction, this book shapes ancient philosophies into new teachings. So, why is mastering the simple pitch shot so important? Because my bet is that if you count up the strokes in your last round of golf, you’ll likely see that you left several shots out there by… Remember though, don’t just read them once and expect amazing transformations to your golf game. Instead, find a few one that interest you and read them over and over again. In Golf we consider the ground as a HORIZONTAL PLANE and your body when you stand upright can be considered a VERTICAL PLANE.

this is essentially the concept of setting up for various ball-flights. If I wanted to hit a fade, I am going to use the "open-open" setup (10-5-D). If I wanted to hit a short pitch shot, I would use the "square-open" setup (10-5-B) A great drill for this is to grip your wedge with an alignment rod next to the grip and extending up past your torso. With this in place, you simply have to rotate your body core through the shot, as the rod will hit your lead side and prevent you from flipping the clubhead at the ball. It doesn’t take but a few practice swings with this drill to give you an “ah ha” moment about how wedge shots are played.

I also tell my students that their scores and consistency will be totally correlated to the amount of play and practice they do. I can’t move mountains, and there are only a few non-practicing good players. Don’t try and beat the odds — take baby steps.R, 2-S, and my posts on the inclined plane and ball-flight laws (which explains much of the unnecessary jargon that exists in chapter 2 of the book). Chapter 8 - Simply a catalog of golf swing positions which Homer references throughout the book. I'm not sure why he decided to put this information in chapter 8... With that notoriety, golf instructors came to him for more information. He realized that the world could benefit from instructors trained with the definitive concepts of The Golfing Machine. So, he set forth to develop an authorization program that would allow instructors to easily explain these scientific concepts to their students. Ben Doyle, Tommy Tomesello, Alex Sloan, Don Shaw, and Larry Aspenson, were some of the first to follow Homer’s works, and many would follow until Homer’s death in 1983.

It will then go left if the club face has closed past square to the target line at ball separation. The company’s educational programs are based on the book "The Golfing Machine." They present an accurate interpretation and application of the simple geometry and common physics as a comprehensive catalog of options to instructors and amateurs alike, allowing them to further understand the golf swing and make accurate and informed decisions on technique.

Pro becomes first new addition to LIV Golf for 2024

I want to start off by saying the Golfing Machine is not for everyone. In fact, it’s not for most golfers because it’s one of the most technical, if not the most technical, books you’ll ever read about golf.
