Description

D700 / SP 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD / 2,832×4,256 / 1/100秒 / F5 / +0.7EV / ISO200 / 絞り優先AE / WB:雲天 / 170mm There's some distortion present in images shot with the Tamron 70-300mm ƒ/4-5.6, but no more than other lenses in this category. At 70mm, the distortion is almost negligible - just a slight amount of barrel in the corners. From 135mm and on, there's significant pincushion distortion in the corners. As usual, this distortion is much more significant when the lens is used on full-frame cameras such as the 1Ds Mark III. VC képstabilizálás (Vibration Compensation) This new lens is designed for digital SLR cameras, and it can be used with both full-frame sensor and AF 35mm cameras with a zoom range of 70-300mm; or with APS-C sensor cameras where the angle of view will change the zoom range equal to 109-465mm. *4

This combination of best in class image resolution, Ultrasonic Silent Drive and Vibration Compensation is a new achievement of Tamron technology, culminating in the production of a premium 70-300mm telephoto zoom lens. For its low price, the Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens delivers rather impressive overall image quality. There's not a huge difference between these images, especially in the center of the frame. The Tamron shows slightly less chromatic aberration and slightly better sharpness in the corner though. It's interesting that both seem to show the same type of CA (green/magenta). The Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II Lens and the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM Lens are the only non-Nikon lensesD700 / SP 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD / 4,256×2,832 / 1/60秒 / F5 / +0.7EV / ISO200 / 絞り優先AE / WB:雲天 / 185mm Very little effort required to move the switches - I would prefer them to be more resistant to accidental changes. There are seven Nikon lenses with a 62mm filter size in my database, but Canon owners may be buying a set of filters specifically for this lens - a cost that must be considered.

The Sony mount is not equipped with the VC image stabilization mechanism, as anti-shake functionality is included in the body of Sony digital SLR cameras. Consequently, the name of the Sony mounted lens, SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di USD, does not include the VC description. Compatibile, in generale, con attacchi Canon, Nikon, e Sony A – mount. Attenzione però: oltre alla marca, è importante controllare anche il modello di fotocamera, che qualche volta può creare dei problemi.D700 / SP 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD / 4,256×2,832 / 1/500秒 / F10 / -1.7EV / ISO200 / 絞り優先AE / WB:晴天 / 70mm The zoom ring is the larger of the two, rubber with long segmented ribs, measuring about two inches wide. The ring takes about ninety degrees to go from 70mm to 300mm, and does not show any signs of zoom creep. It's nicely cammed and takes only two fingers' worth of force to move it through its zoom range; doing so extends the length of the lens, adding about two inches to its overall length. After both "real world" and resolution target testing, on both APS-C and full frame sensors and looking at several hundred images I came to the following conclusions: My preference is for a front-positioned focus ring, but there is adequate room for handling is provided behind the Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens focus ring.

With their deeper DOF (Depth of Field) with identical framing, APS-C camera bodies will not show the focus errors as readily as full frame bodies. I tested the Tamron SP 70-300MM F/4-5.6 Di VC USD against a Canon EF 70-300/4-5.6 IS USM using an EOS 7D DSLR, which currently has the highest native sensor resolution of any Canon DSLR (and in fact of any DSLR). With 18MP in an APS-C frame the theoretical resolution limit at the sensor is 116 lp/mm (neglecting any blurring as a result of the low pass filter over the sensor). I also used an EOS 5D to look at the image quality at the edges and corners of the full 35mm frame. The lens is equipped with ultrasonic autofocus drive USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive). It achieves faster focusing making this telephoto lens perfect for photography of sports, vehicles, and other fast-moving subjects. With advanced motor technology and software, Tamron's USD delivers precise and noiseless focusing at turbo speed. As usual, a low percentage of sharp images can be captured at even longer exposure durations - as low as 1/10 at 300mm.

Image Quality

La mia opinione finale We spent 2 hours in the store making detailed comparisons using my MacBook (with 2 other guys in the shop offering very valued, experienced but un-biased opinion) including making crops of each image. On all settings, the Tamron edged out the Canon 70-300 fairly easily, and the Canon was excellent to start with! Against the 70-200 F4L, the Tamron loses slightly when wide open, but once stopped down to F5.6/8 the differences were extremely hard to find, with the Tamron only losing marginally at the corners. In several of the images I took, we really couldn't tell any difference between the Tamron and the Canon L - it even came to the point that we couldn't remember which images were from which lens, they were that close. Much more problematic is the inconsistent focus accuracy I'm experiencing from the Tamron 70-300 VC.

The Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens is not a small or light lens, but it is average for its class. The Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens focuses internally and has FTM - manual focus is always available and the focus ring does not turn during autofocus.

Tamron's feature-rich new 70-300mm telephoto lens aims to go top of the class

Press Release: Tamron Announces release of a full size premium telephoto zoom – the Tamron Superior Performance SP 70-300mm Di VC USD (Model A005) for Nikon mount APS-C (1.6x FOVCF) body users will not likely notice any vignetting except perhaps in the 300mm corners. D700 / SP 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD / 4,256×2,832 / 1/80秒 / F5.6 / +0.3EV / ISO200 / 絞り優先AE / WB:雲天 / 300mm Again image quality is similar, good out to the corners of the APS-C frame and chromatic aberration is not visible. Besides allowing sharp handheld shots to be captured at shutter speeds longer than needed without stabilization, image stabilization makes perfect framing much easier.
