The writing in this superb story is simply outstanding. The isolated, sparsely populated community is captured with an economy of style that reminded me of Hemmingway at his best: The stories themselves felt like an ode to small towns and the communities they hold. Small towns get a reputation for being places where nothing happens, life stands still. But these stories are bursting with life, love, heartbreak, tragedy, and more. The characters were great and I especially loved seeing them through new perspectives when they popped up in different stories. I most related to 2 characters in one of the stories who are not outdoorsy camping types, but because they’re Alaskan people expect them to be experts. Very relatable. I flew through the book and think many of you would enjoy it as well. Releases in April! Whether they are brought together by the spread of wildfire, by the priest who’s moved from state to state or by the hunt for a missing child, these incredible tales blaze with secrets, rage and love. Sidenote: I'd probably look up trigger warnings more in depth, but I will say that there is sexual abuse involved, among other things) You can find the full review and all the fancy and/or randomness that accompanies it at It Starts at Midnight

Poppy’s intake sheet for the camp contains the telling line: ‘Poppy suffered a traumatic loss when her best friend went missing and was never found. They were both six at the time’. These stories are full of trauma, loss and disturbed childhoods. Adults, who should really know better, let down their children by their careless and selfish actions. Siblings and friends become substitute parents:This was such an interesting reading experience; I highly recommend this book to ages fifteen and above. In ‘ Sea – Shaken Houses‘ we meet Jane and Martha. The girls have been best friends all their lives and are homeschooled but their “badass” mothers have a “strange dislike” for each other but at least they agree “that little girls should not be made to conform to anything that did not ebb and flow like the tide: their minds, at the very least, should run rampant along the beach”. Could the mothers’ dislike for each other be because the girls share the same father?

Even after finishing this short but brilliant book I was still thinking about what I’ve read, wondering what happened to the characters and overall loving the book. There are a few tears a long the way especially at the end, it makes you think and appreciate all of your blessings. But all in all it is an absolutely amazing read. Indeed, the first few stories ‘Angry Starfish’, ‘Pigeon Creek’ and ‘Sea-Shaken Houses’ didn’t seem related, it is only as you read more you realise how connected everything is. Bursting with memorable characters and small-town lore, the enchanting new novel from the bestselling author of THE CLOVER GIRLS is a magical story about the family you’re born with, and the one you choose.Everyone Dies Famous In a Small Town is a short but powerful and important read and I think adults and older children would both really enjoy it.

Everyone Dies Famous in a Small Town' is a series of short stories about how different small towns are connected in ways that you would never imagine, told through the perspectives of different characters, each dealing with their own issues and lives, and unknowingly affecting many others'.In fact, I finished the book feeling invigorated by the characters and amazed at how the author managed to weave such a story. Admittedly I don’t usually read short stories, but with this title, Everyone Dies Famous in a Small Town, I just had to give it a try and I was not disappointed.

Oh my goodness! Traveling between Alaskan woods to isolated, beautiful Pacific beaches and being introduced to vivid, original, quirky characters, diving into interesting, varied topics including wildfires, a mermaid, basketball bears gave me quality time . This was one of the reading experiences I’ve ever had! It was amazing how these different characters were connected in circumstantial yet significant ways. Famous in a Small Town" has a moderately fast tempo in the key of B major. The main chord pattern is B sus2-E sus2/B-F ♯/B. [2] The narrator describes the simplicities of living in a small town, where everyone knows each other and no one needs to have their face in a magazine to be famous. Thus, everybody dies "famous in a small town."I loved seeing the way the characters’ lives intersect and have impacts big and small on other characters’ lives, even when there’s no obvious connection. In fact, these characters for the most part will never know the threads that connect them, even though we as readers are treated to the bigger picture and have the pleasure of seeing where all theses lives overlap. Book Genre: Anthologies, Contemporary, Fiction, Historical, Historical Fiction, LGBT, Realistic Fiction, Romance, Short Stories, Young Adult This is a short, dark and heartbreaking read but beautifully written. There are many characters - even if you do not notice every connection instantly, each story acts as an important lesson for the reader. Highly recommended. I read these interlinked stories with increasing levels of anxiety for the characters and a growing sense of admiration for the author, as she charts the lives of the girls and boys involved as they try to navigate their way through a succession of crises not of their own making.
