We recommend using a soil test kit like this oneto determine the Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Potash, and pH levels of your soil. The blood and bone products you’re likely to buy at your local garden centre or hardware store will be in a granular or powder form and will be measured by weight. Ways you can use blood and bone Bone meal is a finely ground mixture of steamed animal bones and is extremely rich in calcium and phosphorus. It’s used as an organic fertilizer for flowering plants like bulbs and roses as it helps in vibrant, lush, and plentiful growth. If you’re using compost piles for soil enrichment, you can add blood meal to equalize the carbon to nitrogen ratio. The brown material in the compost, like wilted, dried leaves, paper or straw, all contain carbon. Using blood meal ensures a balanced dose of nutrients to the soil and plants. How to Use Blood Meal

Through my tests and experiments, I’ve found that dahlias respond well to regular deadheading and this can encourage more blooms to form, often well into autumn until the first frosts. The first is that it’s a great source of Phosphorus which is used by new plants to produce strong roots and so is great for root vegetables such as onions, garlic, carrot and parsnip. There is no one fertilizer that will support all plants, but the standard all-purpose blend of 5:5:5 or 10:10:10 works well for most plants. Our Nutrient World report. There are three general types of fertilisers: mineral fertilisers produced from mined minerals such as phosphorous and potash; organic fertilisers made from organic materials such as bone or leaves, and industrial fertilisers, which are made by chemical Plants in containers: For established plants in containers, apply the bone meal fertiliser at the start of the season and then once or twice throughout the growing season to help strengthen plants. Again, sprinkle around the plants and work it into the soil being careful of any roots, then water well. Many people ask if Fish Blood and Bone is safe for cats and dogs. The basics that apply are that is that due to the bonemeal in this product, dogs may be attracted to the areas where it has been applied. Therefore use should be ideally be avoided where dogs and cats have access or the alternative is to work the fish, blood and bone fertiliser into the soil after application and cover with a 5cm layer of bark chip, soil improver or similar product to ensure the fertiliser is no longer on top of the ground. Fish, blood and bone fertiliser is perfect as it fully dissolves in about 3-4 weeks and provides gradually released nutrients to the plants without burning them.Fish, blood and bone is far easier to work with than manure or other smelly soil improvers and natural feeds. 3) Organic and Natural Blood meal fertilizer is extremely high in nitrogen. It contains about 13.25% nitrogen content, 1.0% of phosphorous, and 0.6% of potassium. Apart from its impressive nutrient content for plants, blood meal is a non-synthetic, high-protein animal feed. P – The second number represents the amount of phosphorus in the product. Phosphorus promotes root growth and flowering.
