New thriller The Ex-Wife is the latest drama to be aired on Channel 5. The series, which is based on the bestselling novel by Jess Ryder, gets its terrestrial release after previously dropping on Paramount+ last year. Publishers Weekly bestselling author, Jenna Kernan has written over forty novels, most recently penning domestic thrillers. Her debut thriller, A Killer's Daughter, won the bronze medal in popular fiction from the Florida Book Awards in 2021. Jenna’s 2022 domestic thriller, The Ex-Wives, won the gold medal in the same category. Her new novel, The Nurse, will be released in October 2023. Her thrillers are intense, unsettling, and gripping with unexpected twists and turns. On a trip to NC for a fishing thing(male pissing contest), she is planning to flee, but a situation presents itself that could be even more appealing.. I enjoy the odd Psychological Thiller as you tend to know what you are getting, so yeah you may have to suspend disbelief at some of story but I expect that with Psychological thrillers (to an extent) and this book works really well as the plot and the characters are clever and I enjoyed the suspense.

For me it's not easy to put the plot into words as it's one you really need to experience yourself. What would you do if your soon to be husband's ex wife tells you he can't be trusted and not to marry him? Well, you chose love and marry him of course. Natasha is a university graduate, but allows her husband to COMPLETELY control the money; she has no joint account with him and doesn't even know how much he makes. Really?? What I liked about this book is that I was never really sure what was going on or how things were going to play out. I was addicted for the first 50%, but then things fizzled out a bit. I figured out the first major twist but was surprised by some others. There were certain revelations that were a bit of a letdown. I also was quite intrigued by Sam’s character and wanted to know more about him.

This is the third book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'The Hunted Girls' and 'The Adoption' which I would also recommend. The story soon reaches the point where the reader is put in the position where we're hesitant to trust anyone, with each chapter unravelling another secret and another lie that had me questioning my previous assumptions. Very cleverly plotted, I just had to discover where exactly the story was headed, bingeing on all the juicy and mind blowing plot twists the author masterfully prepared, finishing off with a wow ending that had my ravenous appetite for domestic psychological dramas thoroughly and absolutely satiated! Kudos to Jess Ryder for writing this gripping psychological thriller that I just couldn't put down! Highly Recommend The Ex Wife is a rollercoaster of a psychological thriller. Great narration, perfect plotting, and a jaw dropping reveal, made for a very enjoyable listen (read). Meanwhile Jen is classically creepy. A central casting stalker. She pops up in the supermarket, in the marital home, until we, not to mention Tasha, are prompted to ask: exactly how ex is the eponymous ex-wife? That’s about it, give or take. In these parsimoniously peopled stories no one seems to have a circle of more than one friend because the genre is about isolation. Two’s company, three’s a crowd, six is a loose baggy monster.

There are trigger warnings in here including child abuse, spousal abuse, murder and the cutting off and imprisonment of a spouse and young daughter in the den of the devil. Some of the scenes are graphic and cause a gut wrenching cringe reaction. The story itself flies along. If you think your partner is still holding on to feelings they have for their ex, it can cause problems in your relationship even without you realizing it. That's why communicating your thoughts and fears, no matter how awkward of a conversation it will be, is important. If your partner is still talking to their ex and it bothers you, tell them. Don't downplay your feelings or write it off as jealousy. You deserve to be in a relationship with someone who's completely present and ready for all the great new things that come with being with you. Part of the allure of it and part of the challenge for me was that there are moments when we want the audience on side and then there are moments when you want the audience to question whether they are on the right side or not." It’s an utterly absorbing and addictive tale of psychological suspense that will grab your attention from the very beginning. Natasha can't drive. An adult woman in London who can't drive? I don't think so. Natasha's mother drives and has a car.

In The Ex-Wife (Channel 5) we are in the parallel terrain of the psychological thriller. Here not-quite-real characters living in not-quite-real homes do not-quite-real things to one another. Elana is the type of protagonist you want to shake and tell her to get a grip. To listen to her gut instinct. All the red flags? 🚩🚩 Run woman!! She didn't have anywhere to go and no money. He's soooo controlling to her and Phoebe. Besides, he's the mayor and his brother is a cop. Jenna began her writing journey penning historical romance, paranormal romance and romantic suspense. Overall, a solid domestic thriller. I think the dual timeline was a good choice that gave us some edge of the seat moments. This book provides a raw representation of domestic violence within a relationship (although it is not limited to just partners). I am also really glad that this book includes resources for different countries (UK, US, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) within ‘A Letter from Jenna’.
