Pay close attention to the label and how your probiotics should be stored. Generally, you’d want to keep them refrigerated (and make sure the place you’re buying them from does the same). Heat can kill off the microorganisms in your probiotics if they’re not stored correctly. Caldovic, L. & Tuchman, M. N-acetylglutamate and its changing role through evolution. Biochem. Multi-strain probiotics (Hexbio) containing MCP BCMC strains improved constipation and gut motility in Parkinson’s disease: a randomised controlled trial. PLos ONE 15, 17 (2020).

The UPDRS-III scores, reflecting the severity of PD were significantly reduced in the Probio-M8 group at 1 M and 3 M versus baseline ( P = 0.037, P = 0.016, respectively), while the scores only dropped at 3 M ( P = 0.037) but not earlier in the placebo group. Besides, the magnitudes of improvement in sleep quality, anxiety state, mental state (measured by MMSE), and depression (measured by HAMD-17) of patients were greater in the Probio-M8 group than in the placebo group (Fig. 1b). The probio-M8 group also showed significantly higher scores for the satisfaction of treatment and the possibility of continuing medication than the placebo group ( P< 0.001 in both cases, Fig. 1b). Our study showed that the administration of Parkinson’s drugs (Benserazide and dopamine agonists) along with probiotics significantly improved patients’ UPDRS-III scores. Similar observations were reported in previous works 24, 34. One possible mechanism of probiotic-driven alleviation of PD-related symptoms was the increase in activity of tyrosine hydroxylase, which is a key factor for L-tyrosine-L-dopa transformation 35. Apart from motor symptoms, constipation is prevalent in patients with PD, and it might have occurred 15–24 years before the diagnosis of PD 36. Our literature search identified only six studies that investigated the beneficial effect of probiotic administration/ probiotic fermented milk on patients with PD 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, and four of which indicated that probiotic consumption increased Bristol scores and improved defecation habits 23, 25, 26, 27. As expected, our data showed that administering Probio-M8 also improved stool consistency, the number of spontaneous and completed defecation per week, parameters of difficulty in defecation, incomplete defecation, assisted defecation by hand, times of drain, and hardening of stool, and the scores of PA-CQL. The gut has been proposed as the second brain of humans, harboring a dynamic gut microbiome that possesses microbial genomes over 100 times larger than that of the human genome 4. Alterations in the gut microbiota and metabolome have often been observed in patients with PD. For example, the proportion of opportunistic pathogens, such as Anaerococcus, Campylobacter, and Lactobacillus, was found to be elevated, while the polymicrobial cluster of Blautia, Butyricicoccus, Lachnospira, and other short-chain fatty acids (SCFA)-producing bacteria was diminished in patients with PD 5, 6. Moreover, the abundance of some gut microbes (e.g., Lachnospiraceae and Enterobacteriaceae) was reported to be significantly associated with the severity of PD and its associated symptoms 7. The 120 billion CFU count across 30 different strains makes this a comprehensive supplement to repopulate and repair your microbiome, and to keep a healthy one getting even stronger. It’s spread across the Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium and Saccharomyces boulardii strains makes it a bulletproof mixture that should benefit all areas of your digestive system. Serve for serve, it’s the best probiotic tablet we’ve found. van Kessel, S. P. et al. Gut bacterial tyrosine decarboxylases restrict levels of levodopa in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. Nat. Zhang, W. et al. Short communication: modulation of fatty acid metabolism improves oxygen tolerance of Bifidobacterium animalis ssp. lactis Probio-M8. J. Dairy Sci. 103, 8791–8795 (2020). Another group of microbial neuroactive metabolites, namely amino acids and bile acids, also constitutes information flow along the gut-brain-axis 62. Our data showed that the predicted levels of cholestenone and N-acetylglutamic acid increased in the Probio-M8 group, while cholate, chenodeoxycholate, trimethyllysine, and ADMA significantly increased in the placebo group. Cholate and chenodeoxycholate are N-acetylglutamate that are the first intermediates in the arginine biosynthetic pathway 63; ADMA decreases nitric oxide (NO) by inhibiting NO synthase 64. Faraco et al 65. showed that administering l-arginine reversed the cognitive dysfunction of mice by promoting NO production. Cholestenone is the oxidation product of cholesterol, which can be produced by bacteria such as Bacteroides. Up to now, little is known about the effects of cholestenone on health, except that a few studies showed that cholestenone correlated positively with the rapid growth of newborns 66. Cholestenone could also be used in treating Helicobacter pylori-infected patients 67, and it might affect the function of the immune system 68. Probio7 50 PLUS is specially formulated to support your health and vitality if you are aged 50 years or more. Over 100 trillion bacteria make up the human microbiome in your digestive system. These products are all available over the counter (OTC), in grocery stores, drug stores and health and wellness stores. They come as dietary supplements (capsules, liquids or powders) or as topical lotions or creams for different uses. Your healthcare provider can help you select a good one to try for your needs. Probiotics are also fragile things. If they aren’t manufactured under controlled conditions, or tested strains aren’t used, or are sealed in cheap capsules, they may not be very effective (or at all). It’s also a bonus if they’ve run clinical trials, or have submitted their strains for third party testing. Our criteria for finding the best probioticsAltogether, changes in the clinical parameters and symptom-related scores in the patients during/after the intervention reflected that co-supplementation of the probiotic strain, Probio-M8, offered added beneficial effects, particularly in stress-/sleep-related issues and constipation-associated issues, when taken as an adjunct to conventional drugs. Probio-M8 modified the key gut bacteria in patients with PD

An imbalance in your gut microbiome is believed to contribute to a number of health problems — and not just gastrointestinal issues, but immune dysfunction and infections as well. The microbe balance can be disrupted by diet, emotional and physical stress, and use of antibiotics, which destroy the good bacteria along with the bad. Take one sachet per day, preferably on an empty stomach before breakfast or before going to bed. Dissolve ProBio 8+ in 100ml of water, milk or yogurt. Do not dissolve in fruit juices, carbonated drinks or hot drinks

We also know that an unhealthy gut microbiome — one in which harmful microbes outnumber the helpful types — can contribute to a variety of chronic gastrointestinal diseases, including: You’ll also want to pay close attention to the expiration date, as colony-forming units tend to decline over time rendering them less helpful. Cassani, E. et al. Use of probiotics for the treatment of constipation in Parkinson’s disease patients. Minerva Gastroenterol. Dietol. 57, 117–121 (2011). The main finding of this double-blind RCT was that Probio-M8 significantly alleviated the severity of PD, improved PD-associated problems (e.g., poor sleep quality, mental state, and defecation), and enhanced the quality of life of patients with PD. The disease improvement was accompanied by changes in the patients’ gut microbiome driven by probiotic application. Probiotic-driven improvement of PD-associated symptoms, such as relief of abdominal pain and bloating, decrease in Bristol scores, increase in the number of spontaneous bowel movements per week, and increases in hs-CRP, Malondialdehyde, and decrease in glutathione and insulin metabolism, have previously been reported 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27; however, to the best of our knowledge, the current study was the first report that investigated the effect of probiotic adjuvant treatment on non-motor symptoms in patients with PD. This study also aimed to investigate the probiotic mechanisms from the perspective of the host’s gut microbiota and serum metabolome.Probiotics are beneficial microbes, typically bacteria similar to those normally found in your gut. They help support the balance of the good bacteria. In doing so, they may provide some relief if you have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), ulcerative colitis, acute infectious diarrhea and diarrhea associated with antibiotic use or a Clostridioides difficile(C.diff) infection. Some specific probiotics can boost your immunity, fight inflammation and potentially have beneficial effects on cholesterol. How to choose a probiotic dos Santos, E. F. et al.
