About this deal

The Pioneer DDJ-RX is the finest example of hardware–for-software engineering out there. Pioneer has designed the DDJ-RX controller to visually unite with rekordbox software through colour co-ordination. The colour coding on mac and PC screens immediately match with that of the pads, knobs and buttons of the RX controller, creating intuitive, stress free play.

fully analog mixer (in terms of internal architecture and signal processing, not that it is ‘with digital’ in that it has built in sound card) for example Xone:43 A couple we’ve already mentioned: There’s the vinyl speed behaviour (you can have the vinyl slow down / start up knob affect either of those features or both by setting your choice here), and I’ve also spoken of the line fader curve setting here, which is a nice touch. Rekordbox DJhas arrived; the new software released by Pioneer DJ is just what Rekordbox users have been waiting for. Rekordbox DJ uses one library so a set can be prepped and played straight from a laptop and used with a controller or export the same library to a USB device ready to use on the industry standard CDJ-2000 Nexus players. The new Pioneer DDJ-RX is the latest DJ controller to be released by the well known Pioneer DJ brand. The new controller has been exclusively designed to manage the new Pioneer Rekordbox DJ software. It is speedy, dependable and sounds excellent in any given environment. The new RX controller along with the Rekordbox software have been specially created for DJs who use or want to use the performance software on a laptop with a controller. As a result rather than having to take equipment to the venue, the library can easily be exported to a USB, enabling the DJ to use the industry standard equipment that is found in the majority of venues across the globe.DJ’s have been begging for a quality up to date DJ system/Controller which does not require a laptop. By pressing and holding the Menu button under the screen, you can access the system preferences, which contain a lot of choices, of which I’m going to highlight a few here.

You get a free rekordbox dj licence key bundled with this controller. Simply activate your licence key for our DJ software, connect the controller and start DJing. I’ve had the unit for about a week now and its great, but this weekend I tested out the ‘hot-swappability’ of the unit in terms of standard flash (no rekordbox analysis), rekordbox flash, laptop via ProLink, AND Traktor, and these are my thoughts which I wrote elsewhere but wanted to share them here as they may help some in making a decision.

It will be interesting to see what comes next. I would like to see Pioneer release a controller like this with four channels and a touchscreen priced a bit higher, and another one, again with a touchscreen (leaving that off the XDJ-RX was a mistake), but without all the complicated inputs and outputs of this unit, only controlling two software channels, and so coming in cheaper. And another final point, trying to be really clever last year, I got a thunderbolt drive by La Cie, these DO NOT work with Rekordbox. They mount to the computer in a different way than USB and so their mount point changes, meaning your playlists will disappear or lose their path. Worth more trouble and really no need to have that kind of speed for audio, now I use it for VJing and Serato

The hardware felt v impressive. Solid. The platters felt great and the mixer felt high quality. I started mixing and learning my way around the unit. LARGE ALUMINIUM JOGS - These large jog wheels are optimised for a perfect scratch response. They have illuminated cue point markers and an accurate countdown for even greater scratch and reverse precision. On paper at least, the XDJ-RX is the first controller from Pioneer that has convincing answers to some of the big shortcomings people roll out when it comes to software DJing – and I’m not referring to the detractors who won’t give it a go, but those of us who’ve done it for years and still see things about it that aren’t perfect. In addition to algorithms lifted from Pioneer’s legendary DJM mixer range the DDJ-RX boasts Pad FX (enabling users to chain FX using all 16 velocity sensitive pads), sound colour FX and the all new sequencer.Thank you very much and sorry for writing so much. 1. I am just passionate about it as hell. 2. I am about to spend a lot of money on my new rig (used to have DDJ-SZ but sold it as I was moving 10000 kms) so wanna be sure I am making an informed decision. Most importantly: if the ‘standalone mixer’ in this unit is fully digital (as far as the internal architecture goes)…the analog signal provided from playing vinyl on 1200s would lose its most important virtue i.e. warm analog sound because of this (durinng the process of ‘digitalization’ by digital mixer and then making it analog again before sending it out to monitors) wouldn’t you say? The Pioneer DDJ-RX DJ Controller is designed with no quality compromised. At first glance it is similar to its big brother, the famous SX, however the DDJ-RX features new, superb components tailored to provide DJs with an intuitive rekordbox dj experience. I have been forced to use Rekordbox at work, at first I hated it, but I have grown accustomed to it and its most redeeming feature is the lightness on PC load, that aside, to answer your question on playlists/Drives

To create a playlist on to a drive you would first make it in the Rekordbox software, then “Sync” that playlist to the drive. They can be the same drive, but you would be duplicating your files. Deliveries will be made subject to the terms and conditions of the courier company. djkit.com will not be held responsible for late deliveries. Setting up is a case of plugging in the power and your powered speakers, and adding a music source, typically a library of music prepared in Rekordbox and brought with you on USB. (You can also plug in an iOS or Android device via USB should you have Rekordbox-prepared music on that, or indeed – and a little confusingly if you’re new to all of this and trying to work out the difference between these systems! – a laptop that contains your Rekordbox library.) Let’s look a little more closely at the mixer section. It’s only two channel, and has a library browse knob and buttons in the middle as DJ controllers do, but otherwise as stated above it looks, feels and acts like any pro Pioneer mixer. Controller DJs reading this and comparing features may well be realising at this point that a lot of this stuff is missing from most DJ controllers, even more expensive ones; even DJs who are used to Pioneer DJ booth mixers will notice that really, the only major thing missing here from such gear (apart from four mixer channels, of course) is a “split cue” for the headphones output. The mixer The XDJ-RX comes with a two-channel mixer that also works standalone, meaning you can plug your CDJs or turntables and use them as you would with a normal hardware mixer.

Can you really hear the difference in sound quality of analog vinyl record being played on SL1200 and fed to: But also you can set the unit into Midi mode for use as a “traditional” DJ controller with DJ software that can be mapped such as Traktor or VirtualDJ (great if you want to make the transition to Rekordbox gradually), and – my personal favourite – a highly useful brightness control for the display, so you can set it to be clear and easy to read in broad sunlight, while also so as not to dazzle you in a dark DJ booth. The XDJ-RX is not compatible with Serato DJ at the time of this writing. Ultimately, though, the question we opened with was: Is this now as good as software DJing, but without the laptop? (By “good”, I mean “as much fun”.) And broadly, I’d say it is. Looking at the XDJ-RX’s predecessors, the XDJ-Aero with all its wireless goodness was ultimately answering questions nobody was asking, and for us digital fans the XDJ-R1 felt too much like boring, limited old school CD DJing.
