If you're allergic to dust mites, getting an anti-allergy pillow that can be washed often is the best way to prevent dust mites from settling into your pillow. When buying a pillow, make sure it can be easily cleaned, or is machine washable – ideally at 60°C or higher as dust mites can be killed and their allergens removed at high washing and drying temperatures. Only if you’re looking specifically for a firm pillow would I say that the Otty Deluxe Pure (for all the comfort it offers) might not be a good choice. In this instance, you’re better off opting for something such as the Eve memory foam pillow. Getting in and out of bed easily should be a given, but with a mattress that has bad edge support you’re more likely to tumble out of bed in the morning and struggle to clamber on. Good edge support is also needed to keep you in position when you sleep and stop you slipping out of bed at night. It’s worth adding that you should always take any claims of “cooling” properties with a bit of a pinch of salt. While some bedding undoubtedly offers better heat regulation, no pillow we’ve ever tested will actively cool you down. The most common of the lot is an allergy to dust mites, but you can find out specifically what you're allergic to by visiting a GP for testing.

There’s nothing more annoying than being disturbed by a snoring, restless partner when you’re trying to get a good night’s sleep. While there’s not much you can do about the snoring – although our guide to how to stop snoring could help – you can do something about the mattress to stop you noticing their every move. Microfibre pillows tend to be the cheapest and most common hypoallergenic and anti-allergy option. They can be machine washed, but don't have a super long lifespan – we recommend replacing them every few years. Lovely knit pattern, side mesh for additional airflow, brilliant durability and longevity, scratch, tear and shrink-resistance of the fabric – it's just lovely.

OTTY Pillow Price & Size

You’ll notice that for a hybrid design the Otty Original Hybrid comes in an impressive number of sizes that tailor for UK and EU sizes. This gives you much more to choose from size wise, compared to similar hybrid mattresses such as the Emma Hybrid or the Nectar Essential Hybrid, for example. Key specs – Filling: Memory foam; Cover: 45% Ice Yarn, 55% polyester (machine washable); Sizes: Standard size only The OTTY Deluxe Pure comes with charcoal and bamboo-infused memory foam core. This pillow eliminates odours, improves breathability and regulates temperature to a degree. Another appealing feature is the amount of choice you get when it comes to size and feel. It’s available in soft, soft/medium and medium/firm variants, as well as standard (50 x 75cm), superking (50 x 90cm) and square (65 x 65cm) sizes. To test the edge support further, I used an 8kg weight to measure the sinkage on the sides of bed, which came at around 1.5inches. This seems average for a hybrid bed like this and in keeping with the sinkage measurements in the middle of the bed as previously mentioned.

Some new mattresses (particularly memory foam) can come with an off-gassing smell that is a little unpleasant. To assess just how much of a smell the Otty Original Hybrid brought with it, I left the windows closed for a couple of days while it reached its full height. While there was a definite odour in the room, it wasn’t particularly offensive and didn’t hang around for too many days after the room was well ventilated. I asked a few friends of varying heights to sleep on the mattress and tell me what they thought. 6ft Daniel, who is used to sleeping on his front, found the mattress a little too firm for his liking, although after a while he managed to find a ‘very comfortable sleeping position’ that he thought was a step up from the memory foam mattress he had already been sleeping on.Finally, the most important thing to consider when getting any pillow is comfort. Getting a pillow specifically made for your sleeping type will help ensure you're comfortable throughout the night while you sleep. Should I get an anti-allergy or hypoallergenic pillow?

We also focus on other key factors including trial periods and washable covers, plus adjustable and ergonomic designs – all of which help us build a clear picture of the product. The best memory foam pillows to buy 1. Panda Memory Foam Bamboo Pillow: Best value memory foam pillow We've compiled our best advice when shopping for an anti-allergy or hypoallergenic pillow to help ease your symptoms. What is the difference between hypoallergenic pillows and anti-allergy pillows?

Our pick of the best memory foam pillows to suit all budgets and sleep styles

The entirety of this pillow's designed to be hypoallergenic, but at this point in time – this is more of a requirement than a feature. Even feather and down pillows are becoming hypoallergenic. Many would compare OTTY's pillows, the OTTY Deluxe to the OTTY Deluxe Pure pillow because they're from the same company – and so did we. So we won't do it again. The Deluxe Pure Charcoal pillow eliminates odours and keeps things fresh and cool in a different way than the Deluxe, and on top of that – it's in a slightly different price category than the Deluxe. So, let's just compare this one with a standard, mid-range memory foam pillow. What's better here? Key specs – Filling: 24 memory foam springs, ecocell foam, Wellsleep fibre; Cover: Polyester (machine washable); Sizes: Standard size only It comes with a built-in protector and a hypoallergenic bamboo cover for softness and breathability, which can also be washed at 40°C. Bamboo is often lauded for its eco-friendly qualities (being one of the world’s fastest-growing plants), and while true to an extent, it’s a claim that’s often prone to exaggeration. That said, Panda is a brand that prides itself on its stance on sustainability, and has introduced an initiative to ensure all of its memory foam products are eventually disposed of responsibly. I also found that as the weeks went on and I got used to the mattress, I became less restless and found it easier to find the best sleeping position, so much so that my Oura Ring’s ‘sleep score’ improved over the course of a week. My partner commented that he didn’t notice me move throughout the night as much as I normally do either, and likewise I didn’t notice him move so much and that’s definitely a nod to the mattress' impressive motion transfer technology.

Wash your bedding regularly: washing your sheets, pillowcases, and bedding protectors at 60°C or more can kill any dust mites. Be sure to follow the care label to avoid damaging your sheets. All jokes aside, this one truthfully strikes gold in terms of support as far as mid-range foam pillows go. There isn't much we'd do differently even if we were to design a pillow for optimal support. Is OTTY Deluxe pillow eco-friendly or sustainable? Secondly, make sure that the fibres on the protector or outer case are tightly woven. If you can see bits of feather or strands of fibres poking through the pillow, the outer casing likely isn't tight enough to prevent mites from entering. The outer cover is made from 60% Polyester, 40% Viscose, with the inner casing made from 100% Polyester. Well, you can. It's not a lot, but there is one thing you can do and it's not to turn the pillow over. It's using a silk pillowcase. It will provide you with a noticeably cooler sleeping surface until you drift off to peaceful slumber. While there's a lot of conflicting evidence surrounding how allergens make their way into our bedding and how to prevent them, the NHS advises visiting a doctor if you feel you may have an allergy.
