When it comes to versatile training including activities like HIIT, athletic-style sessions, and class-style workouts, I’ve enjoyed the performance of the TriBase Reign 5 and Reebok Nano X3. Cross training sneakers can never have too much support. Along with providing a sturdy, solid and stable triangular base for you to put your muscles under some resistance, the Under Armour TriBase Reign 4s come with an external heel clip for support you never knew your reps needed.

Second, this is a good model for those who want a shoe for lighter lifting and class-style sessions. This shoe’s stability is pretty good up to about 275 lbs, so if you’re lifting lighter than that, then you should enjoy the level of stability this shoe delivers. In my opinion, the volume gives this shoe a slightly wider fit (emphasis on the slightly) despite having a similar last construction to the TriBase Reign 4. For an ultimate level of responsive cushioning and underfoot comfort, the Micro G Foam midsole ensures that the TriBase Reign 5 gives you the full support you need in the gym during any type of workout. TriBase Rubber Outsole For blending versatility, durability, and stability, the Nike Metcon 9 does a good job. The dual-density foam midsole in this model gives this shoe a nice bounce for classes and HIIT workouts where you’ll be on your toes a lot. From my assessment and performance tests so far, I have two main thoughts about this shoe’s mid-foot and eyelet construction. I like Under Armour’s attempt to make a slightly different build from competitors, and I truly think this lacing style will be durable, especially with the beefed up material and additional eyelet holes, but there’s a small problem.

Every cross-training shoe featured in this article has been personally reviewed by me and tested in a similar format. By testing models in a similar format, I can then draw more context between shoes and where they’ll be the most appropriate. This will provide enough room to avoid jamming the toes excessively in every workout while also not making them too loose to where you experience heel slip. If you have additional sizing and fit questions about these models, drop a comment below and share what shoe you currently wear and in what size. UA TriBase Reign 5 Vs 4 Vs Vital Durability The TriBase Reign 5 can also work for this running context, but I actually prefer this shoe better for sprint work. The denser midsole and lower heel-to-toe drop feed really well into this activity. Arune Singh (age 41, 5’11”, 205lbs): Trains daily with functional fitness programming provided by Deadboys Fitness, founded by Colby “Seth Rollins” Lopez and Josh Gallegos. He has recently been training for 5Ks and looks for every opportunity to get some time on a heavy bag. Given his medical history of Sleep Apnea and Myasthenia Gravis, Arune focuses on lean muscle mass and getting down consistently to 190lbs, with a secondary focus on cardiovascular training and aesthetics. He works out in a home gym with a rower, air bike, bench, adjustable dumbbells, kettlebells, and either a cat or dog trying to obstruct him at every turn.

This shoe does take a little more time to break in, but once you have the midsole broken in and maneuverable, I think the Reebok Nano X3 will be a strong shoe for most needing a trainer for versatile workouts. The blend of these two construction components helps this style of shoe compress very little under external loads. So, if you’re squatting heavy, cleaning, snatching, or training recreationally, these shoes will help provide you with a more stable base. 3. Specialty Construction Features Arune: I’ll keep this one short: the laces don’t stay laced and that means the entire fit of the shoe is FUBAR unless you double knot it…and then unknot and reknot between sets. Most brands don’t usually market their shoes using the CrossFit name because Reebok is the only brand licensed to do so. But they have found a way to work around this restriction by naming their CrossFit-dedicated lines of shoes after specific terms used within the CrossFit community like Nike’s Metcon line. Brands like Inov-8 tend to market their CrossFit trainer shoes as functional fitness shoes as opposed to everyday training shoes. Another consideration to think about with the Nano X3 and TriBase Reign 5 is their heel-to-toe drop differences. In the Nano X3, you have a heel-to-toe drop of 7mm, and in the TriBase Reign 5, you have a much lower heel-to-toe drop of 2mm.Both of these shoes have thin foam removable insoles and their weights are fairly comparable. The main difference between these shoes in this construction category revolves around their heel-t This is also complicated by the fact I found the forefoot incredibly, incredibly warm from the first time I tried them on. Sorry for the TMI folks, but my feet were sweating like I would expect to happen in the liner of my shorts (shout out to Ten Thousand, you’re great) and not on my feet.
