Career-Ending Injury: Masaru the Triceratops was once one of Japan's most popular captive dinosaurs, but he accidentally broke one of his horns. Although the injury was ultimately superficial, his popularity plummeted, leading him to be sold off to Dinoland and replaced by another Triceratops with fully intact horns. If you want to get the updates about latest chapters, lets create an account and add Sanctuary to your bookmark. All right fine, I’ll drop the spitting sarcasm for a second. Sanctuary is sort of a cross between Legend of the Galactic Heroes, James Bond and The Godfather. The main appeal of the manga comes from the mind games and twists as Asami and Hojo try to claw their way to the top of their respective fields. The political battle is mostly about getting the right people on your side, uncovering scandals and proving your mettle when it really counts. The yakuza story is largely the same except with more killing. Getting people on your side, forming alliances and making speeches and shows of force to get the right people to follow you. Sanctuary is at its most fun when it embraces its more over-the-top characters and dramatic facial expressions. My favourite is the mind games between Asami and the big boss politician dude Isaoka, because there’s so much hand-wringing over every action and each twist is greeted by someone bursting into a room yelling “OMG OMG OMG DID U C WUT ASAMI/ISAOKA DID!?!?”. Also it would be advisable to be a little tolerant towards the patriotic and nationalistic views displayed in the story and how the japanese duo seem to get the upper hand in several situations. Sanctuary is a dark, political thriller that tells the story of these two friends as they attempt to change Japan from the inside out and create their sanctuary. a b Wakabayashi, Keisuke (25 August 2023). Suzume can't help but be overwhelmed by how cute he is when she first sees him. However, it doesn't last, as Benkei proved quite the troublemaker. So Kaku as Ryuki, a sekiwake of the prestigious Ryukoku stable. Seen as the " Kakukai Prince", he promotes an ethic in sumo that Kiyoshi upsets. Animal Lover: Suzume loves dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals, with her main goal being to bridge the gap between them and humans. The quality of writing is at the level of novelist James Clavell in terms of handling a great number of characters and conflicts. The quality of the art is like a defiant middle finger at the state of mainstream manga plagued by cutesy crap and unending Super Deformed faces ruining every chapter. Women in this manga are actually drawn like women. Every set-up has a pay-off. Every chapter ends with you wanting more. Driven to Suicide: Suzume's father, Dr. Suma Ichirou, killed himself following the 2006 Ichigo Incident, as the public uproar around what happened completely destroyed his reputation.

All Animals Are Dogs: The second volume heavily deconstructs this trope, showing that while dinosaurs are not monsters, they are still wild animals that are often dangerous, and should not be treated like a pet dog or cat. Yamaga was killed by the Allosaurus he had cared for for fifteen years because he believed she had bonded with him, but when frightened by an unexpected event, she lashed out unpredictably as a wild animal does, mauled him to death, and almost escaped. Suzume later acts as a surrogate parent for a baby Troodon but finds even caring for a small hatchling is really tough because of how wily, energetic, and destructive it is. By the end of the series, both Hojo and Asami succeed in their ambitions. Hojo successfully unites all of the major Yakuzas under his banner to extend the longevity of Yakuza (through educational reform) while Asami successfully becomes the youngest nominated politician to become Prime Minister of Japan. At the end of their journey, they return to where it all began: Cambodia. Unfortunately, Asami dies due to illness. a b Gunning, John (19 April 2023). Sanctuary Vol.01 Chapter 1

Id say this is a very good manga- if you can appreciate oldshcool themes. like nail80 said-theres alot of patriotism going on. I personaly dont mind the machoism-more to the point, it was actualy refreshing to read a story that wasnt neutered so that it wouldnt offend people, or try to endear any current themes/politics (e.g peace and love, no nukes, whatever)
