His tail is visible, curled to one side of his leg. I suppose he has decided it is no longer something he needs to hide.” [9] Then Taryn comes to ask for a favor—opening the opportunity to temporarily switch places with her sister. Once Jude gets to Faerie, her inner match lights into a bonfire. Cardan sends them off and the Bomb enters. Telling Cardan he should leave while she takes out Jude's stitches. Cardan does go, reluctantly. The prophecy from his birth stated, "He will be the destruction of the crown and the ruination of the throne. Only out of his spilled blood can a great ruler rise." [4]

In the beginning, the pair did not get along at all. Jude hated Cardan for being spoiled, threatening her and her sister, and being self-centered. She knew Cardan's hatred for her was almost equal to her hatred for him and their feud lead to constant skirmishes with each other. The Queen of Nothing has been one of my most anticipated releases of the year ever since its publication date was moved from January 2020 to November 2019, and Im pleased to say it didnt disappoint! In the previous book, they kept hinting something about Jude's mother, some secret or something but it was mentioned basically once in this book and then nothing of it. Jude's revenge! She seemed like such a revenge-driven character, and then it was mostly omitted from the story. You’re a prince,” she told him firmly when he would shy away from a conflict or fail to make a demand. “Everything is yours. You have only to take it.” And sometimes: “I want that. Get it for me.” Jude Duarte: High Queen of Elfhame; Eva and Justin's daughter; Taryn's twin sister; Vivi's half-sister; Madoc's foster daughter; Oak's adopted sister; Cardan's wife When Taryn, Jude, and Cardan were all in a carriage, Cardan asks Taryn about human candies. Taryn later tells Jude that the only reason he was so interested was because he wanted to impress her [Jude]. Now as the exiled mortal Queen of Faerie, Jude is powerless and left reeling from Cardan’s betrayal. She bides her time determined to reclaim everything he took from her. Opportunity arrives in the form of her deceptive twin sister, Taryn, whose mortal life is in peril. Meanwhile, Prince Dain is to be crowned within months and he takes in Jude as a spy, due to her human ability to lie (which faeries cannot) and employs her in the Court of Shadows with a trio consisting of The Roach, The Bomb and The Ghost. Prince Dain gives Jude a geas that prevents her from being enchanted into obeying instructions from fae (mind magic). Jude begins a practice ofmithridatism– taking small doses of poison to become immune to its effects.

The coronation takes place, but before Dain gets crowned, it is sabotaged by Prince Balekin and Madoc, who kills him. Balekin can only be crowned by a member of the royal family, but in the ensuing scuffle, multiple members of the family get killed, leaving only Cardan of the Greenbriar line. Cardan hides, is found by Jude and both of them evacuate the halls. Jude later places Cardan in the arrest of the Court of Shadows for 24 hours, and they both have an intimate conversation where they reveal their mutual desire for each other.

Balekin Greenbriar: Former ambassador of the Undersea; Eldred's eldest son; Elowyn, Dain, Rhyia, Caelia and Cardan's half-brother; killed by Jude The beautiful dress Jude received for the coronation, which she thought was from Prince Dain, was actually from Cardan. [3] This next section of my review is going to have SPOILERS! Please do not read on if you have not read The Queen of Nothing and all the rest of the books in this series! Also, like always, I’m going to do fangirl breakdowns because it warms my heart. Well, even if the serpent bites off your head,” says Tatterfell, “the rest of you will still look good.”

Tell me your heart is not breaking! Tell me that is not so tragically beautiful that you don't know whether to cuddle them because they so obviously love each other or beat them over the head because they're obviously breaking each other's hearts! THE FEELS! And then there is my main grievance with this book. What did I expect from this book? To be torn apart, even to cry. But now... everything seemed to end so cheesily happy that I'm actually disappointed. Later on, Cardan asked for Jude to release him from his year and a day promise so that he could rule for longer, giving more time for Oak to mature. This would also allow for Cardan to be accepted by the land. He then asked Jude to marry him and for her to become Queen of Faerie until Oak came of age, proposing with the ring he stole from her. Jude accepted and the two get married. He looks every inch the spy from the Court of Shadows, down to the sneaky smile pulling at a corner of his beautiful mouth.” [8]Overall, The Queen of Nothing was brilliant, fascinating, fast paced, flawlessly written YA fantasy with a mindblowing plot and characters.
