The Postgraduate Diploma in Education(PGDE) in England is similar to the PGCE, but contains up to 120 credits at master’s degree level. Some training programmes give you the chance to earn the credits required for a full master's degree once you've completed your training. Academic IELTS. If English is not your first language, you need to send proof of Academic IELTS level 6.5 or equivalent (applicants whose first language is not English must achieve a minimum Academic IELTS band score of 6.5, with 6.5 in writing, and no less than 6 in Reading and Speaking and Listening.)

The Certificate is primarily aimed at new academic staff members in their probationary year, and provides a formal qualification in teaching and learning in higher education. You don’t need a PGCE qualification to teach in England, although you may find it useful later on if, for example, you want to teach inanother country, or go on to complete a master's degree. Your performance in each part of the selection process is graded and a final decision is made on your performance across the day. Full details of the interview process will be sent to you in advance of the selection event. There is no longer the requirement to complete DfE Professional Skills Tests. Instead, you will be expected to demonstrate your competent use of fundamental English and mathematics skills during your training.

Your numeracy and literacy competency will be assessed continuously throughout the course, following the DfE’s removal of the Professional Skills Test.
