Warrington Disability Partnership's annual Appreciation of Efforts awards recently took place, giving the charity the opportunity to recognise volunteers and other individuals and organisations who have made outstanding contributions towards improving the lives of local disabled people over the last year. Next door to ‘Old Kent Road’ (the board’s most affordable square) on a Community Chest space is Warrington Foodbank, one of several charities to be included and honoured within the game. At the other end of the board, The Golden Gates is unveiled as the ‘Mayfair of Warrington. It’s great to see so many much-loved landmarks, locations, organisations and charities have made it onto the board – the beautiful Walton Hall, the Town Hall and Golden Gates, Old Market Square, Queen’s Gardens, the Transporter Bridge, and even the Pink Eye building! Warrington will become the very first Cheshire place to land its own official MONOPOLY game. In 2001 there was a part Chester one, with other Cheshire towns featuring too. However, no city or town in Cheshire has ever had its very own game. The town today (25th October 2022) becomes the very FIRST place in Cheshire to get its own board after seeing off 19 other locations across the county. The winner will get to be a VIP alongside the game brand’s icon, ‘Mr Monopoly’ and the Mayor of Warrington, at the launch event, as well as receiving the very first board to roll off the presses.

MONOPOLY first hit shelves in 1935 with the Racecar, Thimble, Boot, Top Hat, and Battleship among the original set of MONOPOLY tokens while the Scottie Dog and Wheelbarrow were added in the early 1950s. Although the brand has evolved over the past 87 years, the gameplay and iconography of the classic MONOPOLY game has remained unchanged, making it a timeless classic sure to be enjoyed by future generations.Today, MONOPOLY is the world’s favourite family game brand and is enjoyed by more than one billion players in 114 countries across the globe. Fiddlers Ferry Power Station represents the famous electric company square. It forms one half of a utility set, with Lymm Dam featured on the water works square. Other Warrington landmarks featuring include the Town Hall, Transporter Bridge, Warrington Wolves, Warrington Museum and Art Gallery, Victoria Park, and the Pink Eye building.IKEA – in recognition of the Swedish firm’s first store in the UK – in Warrington in 1987 – this also could be on a blue or a yellow square (the colours of Sweden’s national flag) A very special friendship between Warrington Disability Partnership and Walton Hall and Gardens has been celebrated. Parr Hall – the venue has welcomed some of the biggest names in music, comedy and entertainment to the town. Following screams of excitement up came her sister Amy Skentelbery, who unbelievably also threw a seven, to even more excited screams! A new plaque has been officially unveiled in the grounds of Walton Hall to mark nearly 30 years of Disability Awareness Day (DAD) being held at the venue.
