It would be great if there were a cordless version of the Looftlighter, but I suppose the battery would need to be tremendous to generate that kind of heat. Fortunately, the nearly 10’ cord gives us a fair bit of freedom. Resting it on the stand will protect the heat shield from damage, and protect the surface it’s resting on from the heat. Skip the chemicals and get a steady smoulder with the Looft Lighter. This is about the cleanest way I know of to start a fire. There’s no need for toxic chemicals like lighter fluid. You can then leave the charcoal to get ready on its own (takes approximately 20 minutes) or you can continue using the lighter and fast-forward the process, which makes the fire ready in 4-5 minutes depending on the quality of the charcoal. To turn on the Looftlighter, press down the button and hold it. It’s a dead man’s switch, meaning when you let go, it turns off. Definitely a necessary safety feature!
