It was a gift from my girlfriend and I remember being very chuffed with it. The Chivas Regal 18 Years was also one of my early whisky discoveries. But for years afterwards these types of big name brands were barely on my radar. Because I’ve been as guilty of the aforementioned snobbery as anyone. imagine this, the maturation process for the Green Label takes 15 years to complete with malt obtained from the different Scottish regions. The result, a unique combination of matured malt whisky hailing from Speyside, Highland, Lowland, and the Scottish Islands. 8. Johnnie Walker Island Green

The Spice Road – recalling the taste of the ancient Persian, Indian, and Chinese trade routes, the blend is much like the Red Label with the addition of cinnamon and pepper. That balance is retained on the palate, with kumquat, strawberry cream, key lime pie, more vanilla and a slight touch of caramel. Oily mouthfeel. The peat is more restrained this time, but reminiscent of smoked fish (Pam woke up, nosed it and gets Trinidadian saltfish). Maltier with water. It's very easy drinking, but could use a bit more spice.Finish: Medium-long. A twinge of honey sets in adding much-needed sweetness, and the charcoal notes turn slightly bitter. Fades slowly, without evolving. Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. There is so much to discover in the world of single malts that it sometimes doesn’t seem necessary to pay attention to blends or even blended malts. But that would be a mistake. Blends are masterpieces in their own right, play an important role in the world of whisky, and they’re not just for mixing with soda. (Although, a highball can be awesomely delicious.) Actually, many blends or blended malts are of similar or better quality than similarly priced entry-level single malts. We just have a bit of trouble admitting it sometimes.Doug Bagley, managing director of Diageo GTME, said the release is designed to broaden the selection of malts available to shoppers in travel retail.

Taste: Somewhat waxy but also fairly ashy. There’s some vegetal peat, seaweed and burnt toast. A touch of honey and milk chocolate too. John Walker & Sons Diamond Jubilee – a blend dedicated to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II following her ascension to the throne in 1952. Released in 2012, this blend contains grain and malt varieties. He said: ‘The launch of Johnnie Walker Island Green is a true game-changer for the Scotch whisky category in travel retail.
