The image quality is astounding too – especially when it comes to natural-feeling detail. Sony's Cognitive Processor XR is a step above anything else when it comes to creating super-sharp 4K images from streamed content that doesn't feel over-sharpened, and nothing makes sub-4K video look as good. Color and contrast are excellent handled too, especially nuance in dark tones. The one downside is that it isn't very bright – basically, for movie lovers watching in darkened room, it's wonderful, but in a light room it'll get overwhelmed by reflections. The great thing about the Samsung QN900C is it looks stunning when it's off, too. This is thanks to an almost non-existent frame around its screen, a sleek perforated metallic finish to its side panels and the way its rear panel manages to be as flat and almost as clutter-free as the screen.The minimalist design is helped by an external connection box, hooking up to your TV with a single cable.

As a big-screen fitting for sports and movies, it also starts at a slightly cheaper asking price than the U7QF model it replaces. But does the more affordable price suggest the A7G is a downgrade on what came before? Design

There are four HDMI inputs here, including two with High Frame Rate 120Hz video and VRR, and one eARC. Smart TV features are handled by the My Home Screen v.7 software, which is more customisable than most and includes all the key streaming services. TCL’s QM8 Class 4K TVs are the company’s only mini-LED TVs for 2023, but the company clearly wanted to offer something special for its flagship line. What’s notable about the new QM8 Class sets is they are being offered in screen sizes up to a staggering 98 inches. The A7GQ also features Hisense’s propriety smart TV system, VIDAA U5.0, as well as Freeview Play with all the UK terrestrial catch-up apps and services. The VIDAA system is intuitive to use and runs at a decent speed from button press to app opening and playing, plus there is Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube in 4K HDR. There is a content discovery feature along with direct one-press buttons on the remote and there is also compatibility with Alexa for voice commands.

With its 20W speaker system, the A7G offers a soundstage that’s flat and not especially dynamic. Given its size, a decent soundbar is a must, but judged on its own merits it offers solid clarity with dialogue; a presentation that’s clear, crisp and pleasingly sharp but refrains from wondering into sibilant territory.Sharpness, viewing angles and upscaling are all fantastic too, making this an easy recommendation for movie lovers. Then again, gamers will also be happy to find a number of features and formats supported, including 4K/120Hz support and an ultra fast 9.2ms response time. The Samsung S95C may come in a range of sizes, but to really make the most of that wonderful bright picture, it's an easy one to recommend if you're looking for a TV at the bigger end of the spectrum. Hisense has been making inroads in the UK market with its affordable and feature laden TVs over the past few years, and its latest range is its most ambitious set. It's a good gaming set too, especially for PS5 owners, thanks to its 'Perfect for PS5' features, which include better handling of HDR and auto mode-switching for different genres when playing on the console. It's a shame that only two of its four HDMI ports support full HDMI 2.1 features, though – you get four HDMI 2.1 ports from most LG TVs, or the Samsung OLED models. For optimal viewing with a 75-inch TV, we'd recommend sitting roughly 50-60 inches away from the screen for a fully immersive experience. Rearranging the furniture in your room to accommodate this will help, and it could be as simple as slightly adjusting your couch. How much does a 75-inch TV cost? Value is a big factor with TCL, and the QM8 Class certainly delivers on that front. You’d have to pay quite a bit more to get better performance from a mini-LED TV than what you’re getting here.

HDR stands for High-Dynamic-Range, and what this does is allow the television to achieve a much greater range of contrast and as a result can capture hundreds of more colours while perfectly handling the darkest scenes from whatever show you want. This is another example of the massive technological difference between 4K TVs of today and what was possible with earlier HD TVs. So long as you have a table or stand that's accommodating to the TV's large size, and create adequate space for peripherals like soundbars and speakers, a 75-inch TV won't take up as much real estate as you might think.And if you're thinking of mounting a 75-inch TV on wall using one of the best TV wall mounts, you'll also want to consider how much space it'll take up on the wall. TVs generally incorporate either OLED or QLED technology in their products to help ensure the highest quality picture possible. These technologies are vast improvements upon the older 1080p full HD devices and have brighter sharper colours while not sacrificing anything in terms of contrast.

Disappointingly, there are fewer HDMI ports – three instead of four, but ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) are covered across all of them so you could plug a game console into any port and benefit from those features – though they are HDMI 2.0 ports, not 2.1 specified. eARC is supported on HDMI 2 for pass-through of lossless audio. Which leads me to the one egregious aspect of the A7G’s design. The stand is just too big. If you have an area (or whatever furniture you’re using) big enough to accommodate both the A7G and a soundbar – and you will want to partner this TV with a soundbar – then it’s fine. If you don’t, the stand causes some unnecessary faffing about to make space.
