Another slight difference is the 9000’s lovely travel case has a clip built into the lid that holds a smartphone, for using the app when travelling. I found that the force necessary to trigger the red flash exceeds what you can tolerate. In other words, I already know I’m applying too much pressure before the toothbrush’s sensors can tell me so. Smart Guide and Oral-B App You can find out more about all the different brush heads by reading our Oral-B brush head comparison. The Bluetooth technology is one of the main features in all Oral-B electric toothbrushes ranging from the Oral B 4 Smart onwards. The brush comes with the built-in 2-minute timer with a pacer that buzzes after every 30 seconds to alert you to move into another mouth area.

Both of these buttons are made of white rubber inset into the panel and both buttons are raised, making them easy to find. The 1500 is more expensive than the 1000, but it is a premium worth paying for the longer term benefits it provides. Pro 1000 vs Pro 1500The Genius X does command a premium for this technological upgrade and you get a little less in the box. Cleverly, the brush will too automatically reduce the head speed and stop the pulsation until the pressure is reduced.

It also takes a long time to charge – too long to charge fully between a morning and an evening brush. You’ll need to keep it in the charging stand and be prepared to take that with you if everyone is sharing it on a family holiday. The 600 comes in light Blue or Pink whilst the Pro 2 2000 comes in a dark Blue or Pink. Both have gloss white plastic bodies. You have a dedicated cleaning mode button too. Press this to change cleaning modes on the 9000. With the 5000 you have to press the power button multiple times.

Expert Reviews

The Smart 6’s brush head holder is a moulded piece of plastic that clips around the charging stand and offers up 2 prongs. The brush heads then sit on these. It keeps them upright and they do not touch, but they are not covered like they are with the compartment with the 9000, which can accommodate up to 4 brush heads.

The most notable differences and benefits are the battery life and pressure sensor of the Smart 1500. On the subject of cleaning modes, the Genius 9000 has an extra brushing mode known as ‘Tongue Cleaning’ mode. This is a cycle that lasts for 20 seconds with 7300 oscillations and 30,000 pulsations and designed for as the name suggests, cleaning the tongue. Those Smart 4 4000 models that come with a case, come with it at an extra cost of 5 to 15 quids or more. And sometimes you also get a different brush head, for example instead of getting a crossAction, you get 3D white but not a big deal as you can buy any replacement head you want. 5. Pressure sensor differences:

Oral-B 7000 SmartSeries 6-Mode Electric Toothbrush

The 1000 has a pressure sensor, but it is not visible and by no means as noticeable as that on the 1500. It is also worth noting, whilst it is perfectly possible to share a brush handle, the handle can not differentiate between 2 users, so your data synced to the app will be wrong. There is a way around this, but it is a bit of a fudge.

As the name implies this mode is more gentle. It is designed to offer a softer, but thorough clean. It helps those with sore or inflamed gums, but reducing the number of movements in the brush head, making for a more comfortable brushing experience, until the sensitivity has gone or reduced. This mode is great if you are suffering from gum disease. The Smart 1500 offers the features we regard as essential (a timer and pressure sensor) at an affordable price. Hopefully, this gives you a good overview of where various brushes fit in in terms of price and features, but if not please leave a comment or question. The battery life is less impressive. Oral-B says you should get over three weeks of brushing time but that’s only if you stop at exactly two minutes each time and never brush for more than twice a day. When we tested it, two weeks was more likely – and that was only with one person using it. The additional cleaning mode (sensitive) is a slower, less powerful mode that is a little more gentle on the teeth and gums, whilst still offering a thorough clean.

Overall Take

Apart from the difference, each one of them include a two minute timer, 3D cleaning action, 14 day life Lithium battery, visible pressure sensor and 2 pin UK shaver plug But it is perhaps the additional accessory known as the Smart Wireless Guide that is the real clincher for the 7000. What is known as a quad-pacer that is built into the Smart 7, will at 30 second intervals pause the motion of the brush head briefly to give you the notification you need to change quadrant. The LED smart Ring also flashes. This happens at 30 second intervals, up until the 2 minutes where you get 3 brief pauses in the brush head motion and 3 LED flashes, to tell you to stop. The Oral B Smart 4 4000 has 3 cleaning modes (daily clean, sensitive and whitening), while Smart 5, 6 and 7 have 5 cleaning modes (daily clean, sensitive, whitening, gum care and deep clean). Both brushes are Bluetooth enabled and will connect to a smartphone application if you want to make use of this. It logs your total brushing time and frequency for you to review post brushing. If the app is opened as you brush, you will get a visual timer on screen that acts much like the smart wireless guide. Genius 6000 vs Genius 8000
