Some would argue you’re not training your grip as well while using chalk, or that the chalk is doing most of the work for you. It’s important to understand that there are pros and cons to both options, and that both chalk and straps provide some value to our training – when used correctly. You can throw a bottle of liquid chalk in your gym bag or take it outside and train on the bars without a problem.

Liquid chalk is becoming more popular to use than the traditional chalk powder and there are a few reasons for this: it’s more convenient, all gyms allow it and it’s less messy. Liquid climbing chalk with alcohol dries within five to 20 seconds (or 90 seconds for alcohol-free formulas). You can use liquid chalk as a base layer in combination with dry powder or as a complete replacement. How can I make my own climbing chalk? I’m not sure if it’s due to the feel of the grip but I found this to have serious grip, at least initially. I wouldn’t say it’s better than Dry Hands, but it’s definitely close. Chalk will build up on in the knurling of your bars, so have a brush and ensure you brush the chalk out of the knurling of your barbell. Particular attention has been paid to the smell of this liquid weightlifting chalk and it actually has a nice citrus smell where most other liquid chalks just smell like hand sanitizer.

There is a time and place for both chalk and straps in a training program, but using them correctly is crucial for success in powerlifting and even for strength in everyday life. Chalk Overview On the other hand, sport climbers can’t exactly let go of the wall to pull out a tube, squirt it on and spread it, and wait a minute for it to dry. And many sport climbing routes are so tall that the resulting hand dryness might not last long enough. Best Liquid Chalk Options However it doesn't matter how strong your grip strength is, if the surface you are trying to hold becomes too slippery, you will not be able to maintain grip. However, the drying agents in liquid chalks that are so effective at reducing unwanted sweat can also cause redness or flaky, dry hands. In addition, liquid chalk isn’t safe to use if you have cuts or abrasions on your hands. Liquid chalks are non-powdery, so they don’t make a mess (this can be a good workaround for gyms that don’t allow chalk )

It’s a bit more expensive than other options on the market, but a little goes a long way, supposedly containing over 200 applications per bottle. With that kind of longevity and tried-and-true testimonials by legit, competitive athletes, we consider this one a no-brainer. One of the best tests of a chalk is how long it lasts. Try your new chalk out a few times and monitor closely how often you have to reapply. There are powder chalks that will last longer than others, so if you feel like yours isn’t lasting long enough, start shopping around for alternatives. That’s a good thing too because if your workout is long, you sweat a lot, or you train in humid conditions, you may have to apply it more than once. However, you need less than a dime-sized amount to get full coverage, so a bottle will still last for a long time.I noticed that the chalk started wearing off about halfway through my workouts, but it lasted through multiple sets of deadlifts and bench presses. Liquid chalk can rub off on your clothes, but it comes off easily in the wash. Does Liquid Chalk Cause Dry Hands? Another benefit of this product is it can help prevent calluses from tearing, unlike other brands that make your hands more prone to rips and tears. Traditional chalk is plain messy. It can stain clothing and equipment. In the least, it leaves a bothersome residue. Health-conscious athletes are often concerned about chemicals and dyes. You can find chalks that keep things as natural as possible. Some even use organic ingredients to ensure the chalk lasts longer to avoid the need for reapplication.

If your hands get exceptionally dry, you can look for alcohol-free liquid chalk, which will helps make it sweat resistant and moisture resistant, but won’t dry your skin out even more. Does Liquid Chalk Smell?

2. Fire Team – Liquid Fit Chalk

Pat a chalk bag filled with loose chalk between your palms, lightly rub your hands together, then dust off excess as needed. It'll allow you to exercise for longer as you won't lose your grip. The liquid chalk works by reducing or stopping the sweat - drying out your hands and allowing you to maintain a strong grip. Is liquid chalk used for lifting?
