But, another spin off benefit ( haha, spin off – hard drives, see what I did there? ) of this upgrade is that the eMMC storage that comes with the laptop is pretty slow. You can google eMMC versus SATA for the reasons why and how different they are performance wise.

Long story short; I’m wondering if simply soldering on the connector would work just as well (as some other laptop brands can have theirs enabled this way despite the same missing-connector difference), and was wondering if you’d happen to know the part number of the connector used? It won’t do what you want it to do”– she exclaimed, “It’s really only meant to be a kids laptop, it’s really under powered and doesn’t have much storage space either” Curry’s PC World Store Assistant – 2019 x USB2.0 connected SDCard reader. Don’t use this for regular storage though, it’s too slow. But, it does allow you to get photos off your digital camera quite well. I’m not all that familiar with what all that means to be fair. Someone who is better at it than I can leave a comment hopefully and explain it all. But suffice to say, it is an indication of how much data is transferred from the hard drives to the application per second. So a higher number is better. You would expect the SATA interface to outperform the eMMC on more complex operations and this seems to bear it out.

When I reinstalled Windows a good proportion of the drivers were actually automatically found. However, some weren’t. And some were but didn’t work properly. Notably the keyboard and screen accelerometer’s which come with Windows were quite problematic and didn’t detect when the laptop was being used as a tablet. GeoFlex drivers fix that. The extra capacity on its own makes this upgrade worth it – but it is a bit of a faff. You’ll likely need to reinstall Windows once you’ve done it. To do this you’ll need to make sure you have all the GeoFlex drivers. I’ll give you details later in the post on how to do that. I had cause some time ago to write to GeoFlex and tell them that I’d had to re-install Windows from scratch (in this case I had destroyed my Windows partitions completely and installed Neverware’s Cloud Ready Chromium OS).

The GeoFlex 2 in 1 laptop port contains a B-Keyed port. The key refers to an area of the substrate of the expansion card which has been cut away to provide a ‘key’ area. If your card does not have the right notch cut out it will not fit. So, I now have just Windows itself on the eMMC and all my Applications and Data are on a SanDisk Ultra Fit 64G USB card which is barely noticeable at the side of the machine. You can choose whether to use the drive as an additional drive, or whether you want to reinstall Windows. Reinstalling Windows Intel Celeron N4000 dual core processor running at 1.1Ghz – not a powerhouse but perfectly adequate for every day use. I find I’m rarely waiting for the processor for anything – it’s usually disk or network bound. Megapixel front facing camera. Not a great powerhouse of a camera and you wouldn’t want to use it to take photos. But it does suffice if you want to video call anyone with Skype for example.

This is very much not for beginner users, but I have installed both CloudReady from Neverware, and PrimeOS on this laptop and both worked quite well. The accelerometer isn’t detected under either of these operating systems so you don’t get the benefit of automatic switching to tablet or tent mode though. But everything else worked, including the touch screen which surprised me. The Geo Flex 2 In 1 laptop comes with a small expansion ‘hatch’ at the bottom, underneath. It’s secured by two small Phillips head screws. Finding the right size screwdriver to remove this cover reveals an M.2 port, with a B-Key form factor.

Access to the CMOS menu is available on mine just by holding the delete key immediately when turning on. Reveals the longest and most detailed CMOS menu that I’ve ever seen before. Curry’s PC World are notoriously bad for providing support, although I am only going by historic anecdote here as I’ve not used them for support issues for quite some time so they may have improved a lot. I’ve had to do a LOT of reading around this new way of adding expansion devices to computers because I haven’t really played with hardware for quite some time. Briefly though, M.2 is a new way of connecting expansion cards to computers. It’s a small expansion slot, which takes cards that are generally 22mm wide and either 30, 42, 60 or 80mm in length. Some are 110mm in length. Powered by an Intel Celeron Dual Core processor with 4GB RAM to help you multi-task effectively, it's perfect for work, study and casual computing on the move. A HD display brings high-resolution, wide-angle visuals so you can work efficiently.
