Description

Rarely is oxygen the target of attack, but when it comes to storing coffee beans, it’s public enemy number one. Oxygen causes coffee beans to decay, so to avoid complicated storing methods, we bring you Fellow Atmos Vacuum Canister that prolongs the freshness of your coffee beans by 50% compared to regular shelf storing. I was told that you have to break the product down and clean every so often because dust gets in and clogs the vacuum seal (thereby rendering the product useless and your beans exposed to oxidation).

Atmos (and other vacuum containers) pumps oxygen out of the container, reducing pressure, and minimizes rate of oxidation. To avoid any unnecessary damage to the canister, don't place it into a dishwasher, microwave or regular oven.

Its vacuum seal banishes air, moisture, and odours to keep your beans fresher for longer, and the stainless steel matte black finish provides extra protection from the sun. Oxygen sucks the flavour and moisture out of your coffee beans, leaving you with a bland tasting coffee.Atmos banishes air, moisture, and odours to stop your beans from ageing out before you’ve enjoyed the whole bag. When Hoffmann pulled espresso from airtight containers, he found shots that poured faster had much more channeling.

Using a coarse sponge, brush or other rough surfaces will scratch the finish of the lid and canister. Water can interfere with the filters in the lid, and powders can mess up the strength of the rubber seal (powers on rubber allow air to enter Atmos, thus depressurizing the container quickly). This ubiquitous gas sucks the flavour and moisture right out of your beans, rendering them dry and bland. Fill the canister, then twist the lid on to extract the air from inside and keep it in an upwards position at a place out of direct sunlight, in case you are using the clear glass canister. anyway, after storing my coffee (~2 months after purchase) I noticed that the canister had lost its seal overnight. For those who do not know - the Fellow Atmos is a coffee storage device that vacuum seals in the freshness by twisting the lid to close. Espresso isn’t nearly as forgiving as pour-overs and drip coffee, every little difference will express itself for better or worse. The integrated vacuum pump allows you to remove excess air from the canister with a simple twist, creating a pressurised environment that locks in flavour and aroma.

Not dishwasher safe – for best cleaning practices, please refer to the Fellow Cleaning and Safety Guide.

As the weeks pass, the more delicate and nuanced aromas and flavours we enjoy in our beans will start to drop out of the cup. Born on Kickstarter in 2013, Fellow is a San Francisco-based company in love with coffee and obsessed with product design. I guess the see-through, glass version is smoothened out a bit more but I wanted the light protection as well. When it comes to the lid, please prevent liquid from getting inside and do not clean the lid under running water. To open the canister, push the button on top to release the air pressure and enjoy your fresh cup of coffee!
