About this deal

If you hear humming sounds, smell a burning odor, or see smoke when you turn on the air conditioning in your vehicle, you may need to get your compressor oil changed. Because there is a lack of lubrication in your car’s A/C compressor, the parts can grind onto each other. If I had any suspicion that there may be a larger amount of residue oil I would blow the system through with Nitrogen. Popular compressors like the TSP0155997, fitted to key applications such as VW Golf, Beetle, Seat Ibiza, Leon, and Audi A1, A3 are also filled with a new oil that is compatible with both R134a and R1234yf refrigerants.

Under normal atmospheric pressure and ambient temperatures, liquid refrigerant evaporates so quickly that any physical contact with the skin or eyes can cause the tissue to freeze (risk of blindness). The system can be blown through to eliminate MOST of the old oil as the new breed of oils LOVE moisture, and you do NOT want moisture in the system. Compressor oil, also known as refrigerant oil, is vital to the operation of the air conditioning (A/C) system.

My near final bit of advise is to fit the compressor and then leave the rest for a A/C engineer to purge the system, replace the drier, leak test and then vacuum the system. This gas is good for the environment, having a lifespan of just 11 days, and it lubricates the compressor in your air con system to improve its lifespan. There are also various PAG oils with different flow characteristics (viscosities) for use with refrigerant R1234yf.

For the optimum performance, it is crucial to use just the right amount of oil too – a process known as oil balancing. To comply with the latest European Union environmental requirements, vehicle manufacturers are transitioning to a new A/C refrigerant – R1234yf. PAG oil: Polyalkylene Glycol or PAG oil is a man-made lubricant used in both R134a systems and the latest R1234yf. Always follow the compressor or vehicle manufacturer guidelines for the right selection of the lubricant for the AC compressor.

Genuine OEM compressors are filled at the factory with the total amount of oil of the correct viscosity and type required for the refrigerant circuit. To save the time and effort of having to do this, most Delphi Technologies’ compressors come pre-filled with the correct amount of oil.

You do this as an oil molecule is larger than a 134a refrigerant molecule, so try not to let the shaft seal "dry out".

Scroll through this page and find out about the different variants of refrigerant and compressor oils. PAG oil (Polyaklyene glocol) – One of the first man-made lubricants to be developed, PAG is used in R134a systems and also R1234yf systems which require specialist PAGs.
