Description

The diagram to the right shows the numbering of the pins on a MIDI connector and the labels of the connection components of a stereo minijack. Naturally you cant add infinite amount of these, as the signal will start to get too weak at some point.

One thing to consider is the type of MIDI dongle you need for the particular piece of gear you have. Take care to select the correct manufacturer and device from the above list as there are many ways to wire these cables. It just so happens that the Meeblip Triode uses Type A and therefore I was able to use the MIDI dongle that came with my SQ-1.

I've mainly been using the CV outs with my modular but have been itching to use the 9-16 drum pads for samples/drums using the midi out. The signal on pin 4 is the current source, derived from a positive voltage in the driving MIDI output. The number of products in the marketplace is pretty evenly split between Type A and Type B because very popular Arturia and Novation products use Type B wiring.

A large number of brands are now using 1/4″ TRS jacks for their MIDI and other companies are coming out with MIDI boxes to accommodate those. In addition, we have a library of Owner’s Manuals and Support Documents that you can download and reference.Soundtronics has adopted this standard for the M²Synth MIDI2CV converters avoiding the need for the large DIN connectors.
