Rather than using irregularities in the surface to track movements, Darkfield uses tiny details to create a "micro-road map" of the surface and detect position changes. Of course I could and will just use Bluetooth for now, because then I won’t have to plug / unplug the receiver all the time or even keep with me… But I’m not sure if I want to keep Bluetooth always on on my laptop especially when I’m out and about. The small unifying receiver is great, but on a device like a Surface Pro 3, which has just a single USB port, occupying that port with a mouse seems a bit wasteful. Crafted to fit your hand, it provides the comfort and control you expect from an exclusive wireless mobile mouse. I find myself more productive when I use a mouse, due to the increased accuracy and comfort of using one.

In both form and function, the Logitech MX Anywhere 2S succeeds as one of the best travel companion mice out there. The film solution works but it is a clumsy and ugly workaround for a problem which should not exist to begin with. As a precursor, I am a journalist, and I do a lot of typing and mousing – I wear normal mice out in a matter of months. The transparent surface is seen as black, and the dust is reflected as a bright image, almost making it appear to look like the night sky.
