Reviving what had been a late nineteenth century move to dry rather than the previous fashion for sweeter wine, Laurent-Perrier is champion of very dry Champagnes, evolving from wood to stainless steel in production, together with its hallmark art of blending component elements. The latter, widow and mother of four children, acquired the Domaine Laurent-Perrier and ran the business while two of her sons, Maurice and Bernard, joined the French Resistance.

A blend of three exceptional vintages, Grand Siècle was launched in 1959 as a blend of 1952, 1953 and 1955.Champagne is based on the art of blending: the blending of grape varieties, the blending of Crus and the blending of years. The aromatic depth of the rosé pairs with marinated raw fish, grilled prawns, exotic dishes, Parma ham and red fruit desserts. A greater proportion of reserve wines are also used, providing a more consistent house style between harvests. I love how, with time, it starts to show a wilder side of itself, with lovely dark, spicy tones and sous-bois undernotes.

On July 7th, 2023, Maximilien Bernardeau was appointed Cellar Master and Wine Manager of the Laurent-Perrier Group, reporting to Michel Fauconnet. Sappy and broad in the mouth, offering intense red fruit and bitter citrus flavors underscored by chalky mineral and white pepper notes.

The result is outstanding, lovely darker red fruits dominate this easy to drink rosé and it is no wonder it has so many fans. The iconic Cuvée Rosé is made using the highest quality Pinot Noir grapes and is one of the few rosé Champagnes produced by drawing the juice from black grapes instead of blending red and white wines. Shows fine balance, with a vibrant tanginess to the flavors of black currant, strawberry, licorice and candied ginger.
