About this deal

I have to admit that before reading Everything We Ever Wanted I had never read a Sara Shepard novel. At the half-way point the sci-fi aspect of the novel takes the wheel and we get to see a stripped-down kind of science-fiction that doesn’t deal in technicalities. Scarlett is as far from Sloaney origins of Tiggy as possible: out of a council estate, away from a mother who hardly provided any mothering, she's confident, cynical, utterly selfish and she has, as I mentioned before, a grand plan she's working towards. She has an MA in Creative and Life Writing from Goldsmiths, University of London, where she won the Pat Kavanagh Award. In the absolutely packed Act II, the dark fantasy resumes and the Sandman expands into the French Revolution, ancient Rome, 19th-century San Francisco, eighth-century Baghdad, and beyond.

Puncturing the dark existentialist tone of the story with little moments of real humour was a wise move that pays off in full (I especially adored the extended joke about people who shit at work).Although, and some points the book got very confusing and I had to stop and think what was going on. En ik had het gevoel dat ze alles voor de lezer uitspelt, terwijl het lekkerder is om af en toe iets zelf te ontdekken of te concluderen over de personages. Along the way, they’ll unlock wisdom for those of us navigating our own coupledoms, and for those still seeking their perfect match. Yet, when further considered, the idea of 24hr sunshine is actually quite inconvienent as it suggests a lack of the passing of time, and makes certain things linked to time more challenging- like the ability to sleep and being aware of the flow of time.

Her first novel, Flesh and Bone and Water, received widespread critical acclaim and she was listed by the Telegraph as one of their 'ones to watch' for 2017. It didn’t go into enough detail , felt like I was guessing who each character was, and there seemed to be too many drama’s.Scarlett's arrival at Tiggy's flat and her grand plan nearing completion start the fast plot of the novel moving, but it's the contrast and the dynamic of the relationship between the girls which truly powers Everything You Ever Wanted. Everything You Ever Wanted slots into the second bracket, not allowing the setting to define the book but, rather, using the escapist existence of another planet to discuss the current state of our society.
