Equiano Rum is the delicious result of a collaboration between two distilleries, Barbados Foursquare and Gray's Distillery of Mauritius. Equiano starts its journey at Gray's distillery in Mauritius, where fresh molasses is barrelled for 10 years in a combination of French Limousin Oak and Cognac casks, giving the liquid complexity and depth of flavour.Named after freedom fighter Olaudah Equiano, The Equiano Rum Co donate 5% of company profits to ground-level freedom and equality projects annually. This expression blends molasses rum from the Caribbean with sugar cane juice rum from Africa to create this one-of-a-kind dram. Made with collaboration between the very well respected Foursquare (from Barbados) and Gray's Distillery (from Mauritius).I received a sample of this rum in this year's (2021) MoM Advent calendar and thus far (17 days in) it has been one of the highlights. Blended with rum from Africa and the Caribbean, aromas of vanilla and dried oak are complimented by pears, pink grapefruit and grassy notes on the palate.
