In general, somewhat disappointed with the control characteristics of the system, can only describe the radiator stat's action as "on/off" control, can not see any attempt at achieving "proportional" action as was quite normal with the old dumb TRV's they are replacing, radiators are either piping hot or off, no modulated "in between" point. I suppose the thermostat issue derives from the fact I'm only used to "dumb" heating systems where you turn the temp up and all the rads come on until the set point is reached. With "dumb" system if you want the house temp raised you just turn the wall stat up a degree or two , the boiler fires up and the rads kick out heat until the stat reaches its set to then switches the boiler off. This six-pack of smart radiator valves is voice-controlled (through Alexa and Google Assistant), as well as remotely through the app on your smartphone.

But the simplicity of the design of the British manufactured Drayton Wiser thermostat is one of its standout features. As a general observation, in the old days with dumb thermostats, you would often have heating on times and off times. Restricting when the boiler is on has also been found to reduce the number of kW hours of gas used in the home.

Jon Giles got me excited by pointing out there’s a Nefit Opentherm adaptor he was hoping to be able to fit to his Worcester Bosch boiler, but sadly my 10+ year old Greenstar Camray isn’t compatible with Opentherm - and even if it was, I’d need to change my plumbing and fit an integral diverter valve kit to adapt my Splan system to the EMS/Opentherm system. Enhanced insights are available through Insights + if you’re lucky enough to have a Smet 2 smart meter.Unless you live in a small dwelling, take the plunge, you will not lose money and very likely make savings that eclipse the initial investment in a couple of heating seasons. The issue is that while the electronics sound like they are working, the valves either open too much or not at all.

Each of my rooms that has a wiser TRV is a “zone’ , in one of the rooms the rad is buried under a desk so I’ve put the thermostat in that room and “added” it to that specific zone - Wiser now uses the thermostat to control the TRV. They don’t need a charger as you simply plug the cable that comes with the batteries directly into your socket or an appropriate charger and wait for the lights to turn green. If you have a room with more than 1 Rad/TRV and assign the thermostat to that room it will control both/all rads. If you put the room stat in a room with no smart TRV it is controlling the heating in all the rooms without a smart TRV. In my experience with a whole home setup they are not all that accurate, and can vary by a few degrees in terms of actual room temp (compared to when using a thermometer and the wiser wall stat).Eco, by the way, is where the Wiser system switches off your heating early depending on the weather, and after it has learnt about how well your home retains heat. A room thermostat and TRVs do not help control when the boiler is on, for that you need a programmer, or you will have to turn the boiler off manually.
