OMG, this book is all intensity right from the very beginning, and I was instantly sucked into the story. We see it as he beings to open up to Emelin – there is so much of him to uncover, and Marshall does it piece by piece, at just the right pace for maximum impact.

I hope that next book will be available as an audiobook because I'm invested in this story very much. That being said, if you haven’t read this series yet, the very beginning of both books takes a brief minute before you get into it. She is 20 years old, lives with her parents still, and lets them treat her like total crap, even though she has magic and they do not. There are quite some famous tropes in this novel, like enemies-to-lovers, there’s-only-one-bed, and fake relationship.

Neither of them act on it as Creon teaches Emelin about his world and they begin her training, but it’s always there. The audiobook reflects Rhonda’s own journey and shares the most direct way out for those experiencing hardship and the path to end pain and suffering endured by so many, and it shines a light on a future without anxiety or fear.
