The Falklands War There and Back Again was a most enjoyable, entertaining read and I would heartily recommend it. Middlebrook not only gives an account of what happened and analysis of how and why things happened, he includes accounts from participants (unfortunately just from the British and the Falklanders, but not because he didn't try to get accounts from the other side).

Above all, it is a tribute to a band of brothers who, taking their nickname as a badge of honour, fought, cursed and laughed together, to win through on those ‘ringing plains of windy Troy. In the case of the UK that image was maybe prolonged – it was given an afterlife, a kind of zombie-life. On the other hand, if you ask the Argentinian people whether they care about the Malvinas most people would say they do.I'd also recommend Brigadier Julian Thompson's No Picnic: 3 Commando Brigade in the South Atlantic, 1982, for that reason, alongside Sea Harrier Over the Falklands: A Maverick at War by Sharkey Ward - with three air-to-air kills, Sharkey Ward was not only the leading Harrier pilot, but the first to demonstrate that the sub-sonic Harrier could compete with faster and ostensibly superior Argentine jets.

It's obvious that Middlebrook partially intended this book to memorialize individual British soldiers, naval personnel and distinguished units engaged in the conflict.

In early 1982, the UK despatched a Task Force to the South Atlantic to recover the Falkland Islands from occupation by Argentina.

This book shares detailed, first-hand accounts of the experiences and actions of those involved in the conflict, along with reflections on events 40 years on. The book covers key events during the war, from the liberation of South Georgia to the controversial sinking of the Argentine cruiser General Belgrano and the loss of HMS Sheffield. Max Hastings’ and Simon Jenkins’ account of the conflict is a modern classic of war reportage and the definitive book on the conflict. The book written by Norman and Jones is a look at a little known aspect of the Falklands / Malvinas war. If this is the first time you use this feature, you will be asked to authorise Cambridge Core to connect with your account. Her role for most of the time was that of an expendable escort and she became the only ship to survive an Exocet hit.

This purpose is clearly achieved, as is the poor decision or no decision making by the MOD and FO in the build up to the attack. Falklands War Heroes tells the stories behind his collection of valour and service medals awarded for the Falklands War. This text tells the story of the frigate Ardent, from Christmas 1981 in Amsterdam to her sinking in Falkland Sound - and beyond. In this accomplished and engaging book, Mercau provides a penetrating analysis of the association between the Falkland Islands and empire. I love the personal stories of peoples lives and that is why I love pin sword press they have the best non-fiction books Simon Hill is a long time protester himself and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The war also witnessed many acts of outstanding courage by the UK Armed Forces after a strong Task Force was sent to regain the islands from the Argentine invaders. After winning the first major land battle on the Falklands, 2 PARA were the only battalion to fight two, going on to fight at Wireless Ridge, the final gateway to Port Stanley. With the UN seeking a diplomatic solution, the British launched risky amphibious landings at San Carlos, Goose Green and Bluff Cove. Taking the form of a number of set-piece interviews, this is perhaps the best book, for my money, in understanding the Argentine side of the Falklands War by those who were there. The Paras largely distanced themselves from Bramley, claiming post-combat mental illness and the police investigation yielded nothing, yet there are some who believe this to be a cover-up, and I know personally that the version seen on Page 190 is not the original but a revised version of Bramley’s original words which were considered too controversial for print.
